Justin Lowe: The Blackhawks Officially Out of the Playoffs
Well, we can’t say the second half of the 2018-19 season wasn’t at least exciting for the Blackhawks.
Last year, it was a lot more depressing to see the Hawks head into a spiral and finish last in the Central with 76 points. This year, they will end between 80-86 points – so not much more – but at least this season feels like the trend is upward for this team vs. the opposite last year.

The Toews hat trick and his five point game against the Caps. Toews was officially back as a big-time NHL player, which was awesome to see since he is my favorite Blackhawk!! |

Then he gets 2 minutes for being incorrect I guess. - SC116
I like where you went with that but I think that kind of brain fart should get a major at least if not a misconduct.

A lot better to watch this year. I don't know how many faces will return, but I'm optimistic for next season. If a recall happens, would you guess forward or defense?
My favorite moment happened during a game we lost to Tor. Matthews putting his hand to his ear, like "Let me hear you." Then Kane comes out and silences him with his goal. |

Definitely more interested in this season than what transpired last. I also think there aren't near as many questions going into the offseason.
That's not to say there isn't still work to do, but I think with a couple smart FA acquisitions, they can be playoff team next year...still beside myself that McDonough lied to us.
I'm interested to see if Kubalik's skillset translates to the NHL and other than Jokiharju being a full timer next season, I'm hoping the other three big D prospects another year to marinate wherever they may be.
Also, hoping the ball drops favorably fo the Hawks in the lottery. Would be great to get a top 3, but if not, I think the Hawks will still end up with a decent player. |

#19 was my favorite memory of the entire season. The dude isn't done and has a lot of good hockey left. Hawks have to get this thing together because 19 and 88 are way to good to not be participating in playoff hockey. |

A possible 10% increase in points from last year is a good start.

The strech of 8 wins was my best memory of the season. It gave me some hope for next year. |

I have a few good memories of the season, Toews' resurgence, Kane's great year, ADB overcoming the sophomore jinx, Watching Gus on the powerplay and seeing Bowman make 2 great trades. |

Agree on all. Toews proving he wasn't done and is still a great player has me more optimistic about the future.
I figured Gus for about 35 pts this year but had no clue he pot almost 20 goals. The Strome deal was great and he appears to be the Hawks 2C for many years.
While it's already a great trade for the Hawks, if the dimmer switch ever gets stuck in the on position for Perlini...watch out.
I would love if Stan's able to find another Caggiula type player in FA. |

A favorite part of this season was the 2 trades Stan made, getting Strome, Perlini, and The Drake. |

Brandon Manning leaving was a high point, the fact that a seemingly useful player came back in the deal is still baffling....in a good way.

Love this. He's been coming along nicely this year. He played with Jokiharju last night.

Crow playing several games in a row recently and playing at an elite level. Because no Crow next year = no hope for next year.
Toews resurgence after 75% of the posters said he was over the hill.
Kane's electric performance for most of the season.
Acquisition of Strome and Caggiula. Dumping Manning.
Gus's offensive emergence, and the power play coming alive.
Murphy's improvement (not great, but better and trending up)
Performance of prospects in juniors and international tournaments.
Having Cap space for the Summer.

Thought it would be a forward, but Gilbert is deserving.
Actually hope he plays the last 3 games. He's the type of dman that I would welcome on the backend. |

Might as well see what the Hawks have in Gilbert. It's not like Koekkoek, Dahlstrom and Forsling have done much to solidify their spots.
My favourite moments:
1. The Drake
2. The Strome/Perlini trade. I was skeptical at first but this is a solid deal. Every GM has their hits and misses. But when Stan makes a "hockey trade" versus a "cap dump" he does better more times than not |

Favorites:
Resurgence of Toews
Continued improvement of Kane: every year he gets better and better - I'm thinking his recent slump was due to over-work and / or (more probably) some kind of injury
Strome, Caggiula, and Sikura: each showed that he belonged in the Show and could be important contributors going forward (even tho Sikura didn't find the back of the net - he did last night, apparently, and will in the future here).
Most disappointing: Delia showing that he is not yet at all ready for NHL goaltending. |

in regard to what to do about Seabs. its interesting that he is only owed 5.6 mil if we bought him out after next season. from my 2 cents of capolgy. if you are going to trade a contract front load if you are going to buy out a contract back load it. we only get minimal savings by buying him out. he is the one that loses the most. not sure that really means much other then it may encourage him to waive his NMC clause. if we trade him next year after his signing bonus he is only owed $16.5 his last 4 years. I always thought that maybe him retiring early was something discussed. its not allowed but there has to be some reason stan gave him that contract. |
