Todd Cordell: Win the battle, lose the war

I don't disagree, but the reality is we are somewhat fortunate to have had Detroit pass us. Staying and finishing in third is fine.

The focus should be to lose the last two games and make sure the Buffalo Tank-masters (or anyone else) don't get below us in the standings.

Had we kept Kinkaid we might have made it to 30th.... The goaltending's been pretty good, even if the D gave up 17 shots in the first period....

You and I are probably the minority Todd, but man I just don’t understand it. Play as hard as they did for a meaningless 2 points that squander their lottery odds or likely set yourselves up nicely for years to come with a possible 2nd or even 1st overall. I know Hughes or kakko wouldn’t be the answer to all of their problems, but they would take the team to a new level for sure. I know people say you’re not a true fan if you believe in a tank, but I say F off. Are you kidding me? I’m a little tired of watching a mediocre team since 2013

You don't understand why players playing for jobs and contracts are playing hard to make an impact and win games? They dont give a poop about the lottery or odds or the draft when games are still meaningful for them career-wise. Any idea of tanking is only brought up by fans and nobody else, and sure its fun to talk about as fans. I for one supported the tank, and losing as much as possible, but to think the players would purposely lose games or not try hard so that we get a better odds at a draft pick, then get pissed at them for winning, is ridiculous. Some people need to relax and just let things play out, wherever the lottery balls fall we're gonna get getting a solid prospect no matter if we're picking 1 or 6. As of now we still have the 3rd best odds, and it could be worse, a month or so ago we were jumping between 5th and 6th/7th

As much as we want the team to tank, we can't complain when they don't.

More candidates are looking good in the 3-7 range: I just don't want a CHL guy outside of Byram. Lots of those Americans looking good. McKenzie's List gets updated this week.

I have minimal faith in LA winning some games. Yotes are gona smoke em trying to get that 8th seed tonight.

Like Todd said, this mindset is way too dismissive of the chances involved. Players in general may not subscribe to the tank, but as a fan it makes sense to want the team to be as bad as possible at this stage. Nothing is guaranteed but it certainly is improved.

All this tank talk makes me realize the NHL's policy to implement a lottery to discourage tanking is a complete disaster. Everyone still wants to tank the same amount. The results are just somewhat randomized.

What the NHL needs to do is implement the draft so the top team to miss the playoffs gets the top pick. Make everyone fight to move up. Your team finishes 31st, you pick 15th.
