Still, GM Brad Treliving is not getting caught resting on his laurels. He's already exploring ways to improve his team for next season and is looking at the international free agent market as a way of doing so.
Honestly I don't know why all 31 GM's aren't doing this. There really is nothing they can do to their teams right now, so they should be out there scouting.
Whether that's Europe, Junior, AHL, NCAA it really doesn't matter. |

He is to old to waste a 50man roster spot on. Most deligent teams go after the younger college free agents with more potential. Prob after the fox fiasco the flames are looking elsewhere. |

Is this reverse psychology? Secretly hoping the Oil go after a guy like this (because they absolutely should)?
Flames regularly sign college FA's just like everyone else, doesn't make them any more likely to make a roster than a 25-26 year old who is producing overseas... Foo for example is not looking too likely to crack this roster anytime soon.
I would sooner use a 50 man slot on a guy who might produce at the NHL level than:
- have 4 open contract slots
- spend the contract slot on plugs like Peluso, Hogstrom, Taormina etc

“At Nygard's age, teams only have to commit one-year on an entry-level contract so there is no risk involved. It can't hurt for the Flames to give him a look.“ |

Kind of like they did with Rittich. And too bad they lost out to Chicago trying to sign Panarin. |

when you are a super deep playoff team, have spent a few picks to get a few good players to win now, these types of players are EXACTLY what the flames should be looking into IMO. If you can re-coup a prospect by getting a sought after free agent, after spending a pick or prospect on a win-now roster player, that is a good thing. |

We signed a college FA last week. |

Flames are also about to sign a KHL goaltender as well. Artyom Zagidulin 24 years old. Been in the league for a couple years already. Young guy in a pro Men’s league. 👍 |

All the GMs are doing this, but these types of signings very rarely amount to anything. Nygard doesn't look any better than Cervenka, and he turned into nothing. |

probably best not to listen to oilers fans who comment on other teams going after free agents when they are willing to give 4.5 million dollar extensions to free agent goalies who have played 30 games. |

Fox fiasco? You mean trading him for Lindholm and Hanifin? I'll take that fiasco any day. |

Especially since he isn't signing with the Hurricanes either. Sounds like Treliving knew what he was doing and probably knew Fox wasn't going to sign with the Flames. Not exactly a fiasco.
On another note, looks like some people have been overblowing this whole Monahan thing. He has 3 points so far tonight. Guess that big injury is magically healed. |

I dunno. I’m not convinced yet. It’s only one game out of 10 bad ones. I hope so, but I’m keeping a close eye on it. |

I'm kind of in the same boat, but he looks like a different player tonight. He didn't look like that against the Devils when the Flames had their last big game. Tonight he's engaged physically which is something we haven't seen from him since before the break. |

Maybe he’s been playing through that 6 week cold/flu? Had it September through October, but I know people who didnt catch it till February. |

They can probably start holding guys out of the lineup...the division and conference is all but clinched. I'd like to see kylington/Stone/Prout etc.. get some games down the stretch. Quine or Lazar up front. Maybe tell Monahan to stay home for the California trip. |

What are you talking about? Calgary drafted fox. Traded him when it was clear he wasn't going to sign so we didn't lose him for nothing.
Are all oilers fans this dumb?? |
