Just an honest question here. Ray Shero has been the GM for what, 5 years now? Are you confident in him and his scouting staff? While your main guys are injury depleted, it still doesn’t feel like the prospects you’ve called up are all that good from a far off perspective.

I trust Shero more in these 5 yrs than I did Lou in his last 5.

Absolutely. From day 1 he has had a plan. People get pissed cause he didn’t sign players this offseason just to sign them. Blackwood has looked great, Rooney is solid. The others will take some time and who knows what they’ll end up being.

Ray became the GM in May 2015, so it's really just getting to 4 years in the official capacity. So we aren't talking about that much time. I think the jury is still out. It's important to remember when he took over we had one of the worst farm system in the league and had the oldest team in the NHL. Add in his first draft as GM was influenced by Lou Lamoriello and the previous scouting department and it makes it hard to evaluate.

We've pulled a few guy into the NHL like Nico, Coleman, Zacha, Wood and now Blackwood. Most of the rest drafted under Ray need more time. There are guys who like misses and who have underwhelmed; but really if you look at most draft results there is a lot of that. Figuring how Ray Ray had done compared to other teams is beyond me... Interesting question. Thanks.

so since Zacha is a 6th overall pick in his 3rd full NHL season.. he looked great compared to all the AHL-ers/prospects on the ice.. right??

I hear ya. Definitely a good first game back given the teams circumstance. Had a little buzz in his step tonight and tried to make some slick plays along with that assist.

It's pretty obvious that he's not living up to being a 6th overall pick, but he's also not somebody that is liability and hurts the team. That being said, we're all going to want more. Here to hoping we get lucky and land Hughes.

In theory, it wouldn't look half bad having Nico, Hughes, Zacha down the middle for the foreseeable future. That actually looks like recipe for some success if we're being fair. All can fill a very valuable role in distributing Ozone/Dzone starts and tough minutes.

Once again though, need to get lucky.

Thats how Shero did it in Pitts, with 3 centers.
