Gotta give Vancouver props... their player development has seen some success. Maybe Virtanen is never going to be the player they thought he was, but Horvat, Pettersson, and Boeser are aced first round picks considering where they were taken at.

Thanks Todd,

I know I could probably look this up, but I have never seen this "attempts for vs attempts against" statistic. Sounds like Corsi, or shots for vs against, but i imagine its not the same.

As much as Van tries to push the pace, I am taking the under 6.5 Pinnacle is offering. each teams previous 10 games combines for a 14-6 record U6.5. Hard numbers to beat. Devs goalies have played well, with blue collar offense struggling mightily.

Take the under fella's

Here:

Flames will make the playoffs and not win the cup again.

They'll try again next year. Same results. Drinking continues in Western Canada to deal with continued failures.

All fans of the team found to be Flaming C's.

Repeat daily. Enjoy.

Not to beat a dead horse, but was Zacha overrated for his draft spot or just didnt pan out. Im comparing him to Matt tkachuk, same age, similar body and draft spot but Matthew has been playing lights out since joining the team.

Why?

What does one player doing well have to do with another player playing poorly. What does talking about Zacha being a poor pick by the team have to do with anything at this point.

Well, normally when you compare two players you try to find two comparable players to compare and I feel these two, both 6th picks, similar body structure, same age. So I decided to ask.

It's I think a important question to ask. If Matt is playing really well because he has a great team to play on vs Zacha which he doesnt, then it really isn't Zacha's fault. Or any of our young kids for that matter.

Nature vs nurture?

Playing on a better team is going to hide your faults more than highlight them for sure. Zacha plays on one of the worst teams in the league and doesn't produce so it makes him look worse than he is. Compounded with probably being rushed into the NHL too quickly and not having good teammates to pick up his play, it's not a good situation to develop in.

Zacha will be a solid NHL contributor for this team, which is what you want from a first round draft pick. Everybody just looks at all of the better players we could have had and thinks he needs to be better when it's the fault of the team for taking the wrong guy, not Zacha's. If you look at our first round picks from years before and see none of them playing anywhere, you have to be content with anybody being an NHL caliber player. Also, Zacha being the next Zajac is not a bad thing either.

When? I just don't see as much progression with him as I would expect at his age. I fear he has reached his potential

I don't see how you can give up on a player at age 21. What are you expectations for players his age?

At any point a player might have reached their potential and Zacha might just be this for the rest of his career. Why would you give up on him now though?

Before getting injured Zacha showed some very strong play. His production numbers haven't been that impressive but his play has improved. I wouldn't give up on him. Maybe he's not a 2C in this league and they should try him on wing or down a line. But the kid has some skills and seems to be a legit player.

I didn't say I gave up on him and yes I realize he's only 21. I just don't see him taking the next step from year to year. Now I know you can't look at points alone but it does support my theory that what he is now is what he may be going forward.

16-17 season: 24 points in 70 games and a -17
17-18 season: 25 points in 69 games and a -3
18-19 season: 17 points in 53 games and a -8 (plus 4 games for demotion to AHL)

Lastly, I really hope I am wrong as we need our 1st rounders to meet the expectations of first rounders

I do. That the Rangers can pick either Kakko or Hughes at 1.
