Just saw today that Kyle Turris is a healthy scratch. Wonder if there may be a play we could make to grab him for a change of scenery as a 3C. May cost us Misha or similar, but he has been struggling all season so his value may be seriously depressed and Nashville may be open to moving on.

Think he came back from a decently long injury last month. Missed 15 or more games. Maybe just isn’t 100%. Regardless, he’s paid 6M and will be 30. I rather explore FA

Morin won't play until the Flyers are mathematically out of it or injuries on the blue line force him into action. Having him up with the big team gives him a chance to see what it's like to be a Pro in the NHL. Next season he will feel more comfortable coming into training camp. They Flyers playoff chances a slim and getting worse each day, so I'm sure Morin will get his chance this season.

Ill add he didn't exactly light it up when he came back and didn't even play in all three games because of cramping and conditioning.

Its not really that conducive to winning or what is best for him to just throw him in to a playoff race where every game is ratcheted up a notch. Especially after he hasn't played in a year. Its hard enough getting thrown in to AHL game and people want to put him in to that situation in an NHL game in March?

Coach Gordon on how he turned around what was the NHL's 30th ranked PK unit (73.5%) when he took over.

Since he became coach, the Flyers PK is ranked 11th (83%).

“Well, I think more pressure to the puck on the half-wall,” began Gordon when explaining what changes he had made to the unit. ‘We’re not worried so much about the weak side. From what I remember in the beginning of the year, there was kind of a passiveness down low, and I think the coverage was more putting an emphasis on what was happening between the dots versus … I believe you have to get some pressure on the puck, in all situations. I think as skilled as all the players are, if you can do it in the right manner, you’re making the opposition make their plays under duress versus being able to size things up and get you to make a move away from them that opens up a passing lane.”

The way the Capitals pressured the puck on their own PK last night was both astonishing and frustrating.

I don't even know if we have the personnel to play like that. The Flyers had no time to do anything and were playing the exact way they shouldn't play against a kill like that. Pass, pass, pass, pass some more instead of getting quick shots off before the Caps had time to get in the way.......which was pretty damned fast.

I was thoroughly impressed.

Hagglin is really good on the PK. I've liked him since his days with the Rags. He is fast as hell and pressures the puck like crazy. He was also on that third line last nite, creating most of the havoc that Connelly benefited from.

They've been using that same aggressive PK scheme since the Flyers last saw them in the playoffs. That season the Flyers had one of the top PP in the league and they couldn't get anything together because of their disruptive PK.

I give a lot of credit to Claude Giroux. I don't like that they have to use them on the PK but he came in and showed a lot of leadership and led the way to show how to play more aggressively on the PK. This started before Gordon took over.

You couldn’t possibly have the finger on the pulse of this team if you actually believe that Brian Elliott is going to be re-signed between now and the 2019 flyers training camp. A team that clearly transitioning to become as young as possible. Let’s sign Brian freakin Elliott to an extension, a guy who is capable of playing well but incapable of staying healthy at age 34 (on April 9th).

Until last night, I thought they were the worst team to ever win a Stanley Cup. They came us in waves but we did ourselves no favors. We kept trying to dump and chance. Zero adjustment. Heck, a couple times we dumped and nobody did anything but hand the puck back to them...

It works especially well against the Flyers because they have a hell of a time stringing together tape to tape passes to begin with, and don't have a decent weak-side one-time option to speak of.

If you can't break the box and get the puck to the weak side quickly, the Caps' PK will absolutely own you.

Agreed. Sam is under contract until 2021 at a very cheap cap hit. We'll get to see what the kid has soon enough.

On the Caps PP, who is the one time option opposite of Ovechkin?

I mean the PK was improving before Gordon. Announcers made sure to announce it every game that the recently improved PK was out. PK really doesnt look any different before it started improving under Hakstol. They were to passive but eventually got aggressive. That continued under Gordon

Absolutely. The issue wasn't coaching, it was player execution. As I posted previously, Giroux is really who led the way there.

Other than G they don't have a player with the skating ability or confidence to pressure the attacking team's PP unit.

I dont know I think Raffl, Laughton and Coots do a good job. Lindblom has looked pretty good on PK as well

No Hartman, I would like to say it’s bad luck but when you put yourself in a deep hole like they did, then have to be so good they were bound to run into bad luck or out of gas
