Isn't trading for some other teams poop just hoping?
- burn

I wouldn't say all these Gms, dubs included were trading for poop. Some of the trades will be regrettable, and some won't. What I do know is this team does not have a defence worthy of a Stanley Cup at the moment. And before you say other teams did this or that in the past, that is those teams. TO is letting in more and more goals over the last 30 odd games.

Carey Price has gotta (frank) off. Guy I'm facing in one of my fantasy leagues has him and he's the only reason the score is 1-1.

And I got Vaselevskiy who is losing 3-0 to (frank)ing Detroit.

That is a cop out. Dont go saying "he didnt do enough" and "there was cheap depth dmen out there" and then say "I dont know what was available". You're talking out of two sides of your mouth in your statements.

Agreed on the Muzzin trade.

I only know what guys actually moved. I'm sure there were others as well, the media certainly threw plenty of names out there. But ultimately I don't know for sure, none of us do. But the Leafs d needs to be better to win a championship, and some depth would help.

Depends. There are good and bad decisions. Sometimes trades cause problems, sometimes they're good. I guess it depends on how good the GM is. I'm not going to assume there was nothing, I assume he thought it wasn't worth it though.

Right. Mcquaid was trade for and it is clearly not working out for clb. That was a trade not worth making. Many leaf fans here though adamant that the leafs should be in on him. He's garbage.

Probably the only depth dman that went at the deadline that would have made any sense for leafs is bealeau. But how much impact does a guy that couldn't crack the (frank)ing sabre lineup going make for the leafs?

I wanted the leafs to upgrade their d as much as anyone but there just wasn't anything there. Maybe this summer dubas addresses the d with one of the forwards this summer.

Jensen would have been nice but it seems he wanted a deal done and the Leafs couldnt or waant interested in it.

I liked the Jensen deal, didn't think it cost all that much and the deal he signed seemed reasonable. That is one that I wanted.

Hard to say how he would have fit, Columbus is a harder roster to crack on the back end. Different guys fit with teams. Guys always bring up Pittsburgh and their 'poopty' d when they won the cup, but they are just a better team. Gubranson looks steady and is making very very few mistakes on the Pens, but a lot of guys would have hated trading for him because he looked crap in Van. I guess in that sense the Leafs aren't ready to make moves at the deadline.

Likely on the couldn't side I would think. Giving Dubas the benefit of the doubt that he saw that as an upgrade, but with how little cap space for next year probably couldn't do it.

Getting poopty players isn't what the leafs should be aspiring to. If that is the bench mark then I'm happy 'they aren't ready to make moves at the deadline'. Obviously that is a ridiculous statement that makes no sense (they did make a move, one that was superior to the poop being thrown around like mcquaid and gudbranson). The leafs are looking for good players that can help the team, not 'any and all available no matter how poopty'.

I want my team to be smart about it. I'm not going to get upset they didn't do something if the only thing available makes no sense.

this guy.

Have to find a way to pay good players is now a bad thing.

Sens should have traded their good players for better returns and kept their 1st rounder this year. Now they are poised to suck for years and their best chance at getting a franchise defining player is going to Colorado.

He playing close to 20 in Pitt and looks not bad at all, certainly a physical upgrade for TO. Part of the argument is as I said earlier they are not going to be able to much of anything next year with the cap situation so this was a go for it year. And again, I'm sure there were other possibilities that just didn't happen, but this team does need better defence to compete for a cup.

Always good to have depth. And I don't think for one second Rosen is ready for playoff hockey, anymore than Marincin or Borgman. Considering late rounders was the ask and this was a big chance to go for it I feel it was a missed opportunity.
- aminnes

no doubt that the untested guys Borgman, Rosen and the younger Swedes aren't ready for playoff hockey...
problem is Marincin isn't ready for regular season hockey.

I realize guys are negative on Holl, but why not play the guy and get him some ice time? They are locked at no worse than 3rd, is he that much worse? And even if he is, he doesn't even play AHL games. So they never play him and give him ice time and then wonder why he doesn't look good when they do. Makes no sense.

Gudbranson has a cap hit the Leafs couldnt handle next year.

Also one thing I think Button said after the deadline is right. Trades are hard. Dubas has to like the guy available then the other team has to like the pieces being offered. All the while needing to keep an eye on the cap.

I'm honestly not concerned about next year. Regardless of the situation the Leafs have a good team. They may not do as well next year if things remain status quo but look at Tampa. They finished near the bottom to snatch up Hedman and some of their young guys.

I think Dubas really likes him. I expect him to battle for a spot in camp.

I've been suggesting the same thing for a while now... my point is we know Marincin is crap.

Why not give Holl a go.. .move Hainsey to the left side.... still a few games left to experiment... and what they are doing right now sure isn't working particularly well.
