When is Hellebuyck going to get called out?
Yeah I get the Jets defensive structure isn't as good as last year. But look at Dallas they wish they had Myers and Kulikov playing defense for them, yet Bishop has .932 SV% and 2.08 GAA.

4-3 Jets in overtime. Then they lose 5-2 to Calgary on Saturday |

He’s facing the most shots of anyone in the league, and also a ridiculous number from right in front of the net.
Our defensive structure isn’t not as good, it’s not there |

Wasn't sure why the Leafs traded for Petan. He is an AHL player.

This is a good point, ignoring all the evidence ever
BENNY:
There is lots of evidence that Petan is an AHL player and a good one at that level.
There is NO evidence that he is an NHL player.

I need a big win tonight. For your fellow Canadian team!
Also, how has Hayes been? I thought he was a great trade. |

Pittsburgh is in the same boat as the Jets, each giving up 33.6 shots a game. Yet both DeSmith and Murray have better stats than Hellebuyck and have 6 shutouts between them while Hellebuyck has zero |

Interesting point. |

How can you flip a stick like Chara did on Scheif and no penalty?
It is truly hard not to be cynical of officiating. |

He has had consistently improving number over the last 3 years. His play driving is excellent. His defence is well above average. He’s only missing the points, and that’s almost 100% due to linemates and deployment |

Seriously. There should be no argument here at all. There are a very long list of junior and AHL players that were light years better than Petan that never made the NHL . Alexandre Giroux, Scremp, Agostino, Slaney, Laflamme, Lebeau, Lefebvre are all good examples especially the last two who were similar in style and height to Petan. Petan is lucky that the league has gotten somewhat smaller and faster ( although fast inst exactly one of Petans best features) or he may have never even played a game. |

Who would have thought that the Jets first-round opponent might be Arizona ? They could still end up being the top wild-card spot. There would certainly be a lot of Jets fans at those games in Arizona should it happen. |

The white out series? Be weird seeing the jets wearing white white, for a white out in Zona |

So Helly has faced more shots than any other NHL goalie. Comrie has faced more shots than any other AHL goalie. Is it possible we have a problem with the defensive system we are not only teaching our pros but also our AHL’ers for when they get called up? Jets coaches and management, what are we fans missing with this strategy? |

Take a look at the 2013 draft year. Picks 31 to 62, second round, only 23 have played in the NHL. 13 of the 23 have less than 100 games. There are six of that group that have played more NHL games than Petans 111 games.
So, the real question is: did the 2nd round in the 2013 NHL draft live up to the hype?
Remember this was the year of McKinnon 1, Domi 12, Morrisey at 13, Dano at 27, Petan 43.
It was a good draft year for the AHL in my opinion. Petan, Dano (first round) and the rest of the second round all look very average in my opinion. The later part of the first round and the second round look very average, I don’t think the hockey minds missed anything with tons of new average draft picks coming up. Easily replaceable, which has happened. If you want to go the cynical route, a whole lot of the "later first round" and the second round 2013 all got screwed by their coaches. You know, deployment issues, favoritism, all those meaningless arguments that support sour grapes when you are AHL caliber.
Another tidbit here, same draft year, Andrew Copp at 4th round 104, 281 games. Heck of a lot more NHL games than Mr Petan and Mr Dano. Perhaps Copp provided the team something that Dano and Petan could not provide? Good drafting by Jets scouts on Copp. Maybe plus 52 over the course of 281 games says something about his reliability? |

Petan, Leipsic, Rattie - a helluva line for Portland. Crash and burn in the NHL.

Petan is destined for an AHL career, or even lower (KHL), UNLESS, he gets a break and gets traded to or picked up by a team with very little forward depth. Getting traded to Toronto was not a good thing for Petan.
