Cover up. Just like concussions. The league makes itself look bad if they do the right thing; this is anathema to their thinking.

Exactly. If I'm Shaw, I go off in the media...... If it was heard, then someone said it, period. The league should suspend every toronto player that was interviewed, and every official, because someone is not telling the truth!

One of those unsolvable math problems? I have faith that you'll catch up, you usually do. Just saw that you did. Haha. Liking the military time.

Don't feel bad, I won't see the game tonight.

More like an accounting/financial reporting problem for a series of reports that each report data from 1993 through 2018.

Perspective everyone before we jump on the JC > Q bandwagon.

Same time last year 29-32-8 66 pts
Same time this year 30-30-9 69 pts

A three point delta does not a case make either that the switch to JC was a good move, that this team is playing any better, or is in any better position to make the playoffs. I would argue they are worse due to the balloon in GA to over four per game since New Year's.

The two game win streak they are on now came against very weak offensive teams. That is about to change.

Looking at the last four games on the schedule, they have WPG, STL, DAL and NSH. They basically have to be in the last wild card spot plus nine points after game 78 to allow for losing to them all and avoid any tie breakers.

That means they have to go 9-0 over the next nine games to not have to win ANY of their last four, AND hope everyone ahead of them loses some games.

There are no unsolvable math problems, Yeaster. Only those where the solution hasn't been found yet. There is a solution, tho.
- Elbows15

Correct. Everything is solveable! Even the hawks will eventually get their D figured out. Might not be this year or next, but they will get it.

Well, if it was in a movie, it has to be true.

It was a movie that only streamed over the Internet. So it was double true.

They should have gone after it for real....not the bogus investigation they did.

I'll second that! Stratford and the Shaw festival are very good and well worth the visit. Great restaurants in both Starford and Niagara on the Lake.
- paulr

The only Shaw festival I want to see is a video of Andrew’s greatest hits and plays. With the playoff hard butt in 3 or 4 times. Still laugh over that one!

This year second half 15-9-6 so far
last year second half 13-24-3

So although full season they are only 3 points better, you can argue that with the tweeks that Stan has made during the season, and the improved play of Toews, Kane, etc., they are better than last year.

Could also be interesting to see if these are going to be meaningful games to these teams regarding final playoff positions or meaningless resulting in resting players.

Factoring out JC's 3-8 November and 6-9 December as not relevant, I guess you could ignore those games and make it look like they are better....sure

This ... it puts things in context -- this point in this season is far better than this point in last season -where they couldn't buy a win -and it was, frankly, ugly.

The point is about progress being made and when. It has been pretty consistent in the 2nd half of this season.

So you mean those teams might tank? Professional players would never do that, nor should they, right? They always want to win no matter the landscape in front of them.

Sorry, all things point to a miss for the playoffs, but playing just well enough to play out of a high draft pick.....

Forget the records comparisons.

Last season was going down almost consistently from December (Crawford's injury) on (they did win a couple in the last week of the season). Didn't leave us with much hope for the future. Except for AdB, nothing in the way of positive surprises - and the real possibility that except for Kane, the complete core was rotten.

This season has been going up (perhaps with a not very elevated slope, but still) since December - inconsistent but with certainly some promise of better times to come. Several positive surprises, a couple of nice recoveries....

I'm a Q guy - I'll be one forever, given the 3 Cups (I know, Savvy, it woulda been 6 if he wasn't a dolt). That said, it was time for a change. Q's message got stale. The eye test says they're a better team now. And Q ain't coming back anyway.

I am factoring how they are playing now as compared to last year. I am factoring that they changed coaches, the old one being here 10 years, and the on the fly implementing what he wants to do and evaluating who he has, and that he is a rookie head coach trying to get his bearings without the benefit of a training camp. You are looking backward, I am looking forward. I am more positive about this team this year than last year. Does it mean I think they will be a cup contender next year? no. do I believe they can make the playoffs? With the right additions (and does not mean a $9 million dollar FA), yes.

Yes. Last year, they started stronger and then slowly went downhill as the season went on. This year, the first few months were really bad and they are trending up as the season has progressed. If they can continue to trend in the right direction, it gives some hope for next season.

Calm down PE, there are multiple microphones on top of the glass in every arena. It could have been said by anyone near any of those six microphones.
I heard today that the Tampa bench, which is near one of the mikes, was yelling to "rag it" meaning the puck. Makes perfect sense.

I'll just add. Q is one of the greatest coaches of all time. He deserved the credit for how well the Hawks did. The team needed a change because they weren't winning. The problems aren't just personnel and time will tell if JC is the guy. Time to move forward and not worry about the past.

Actually I am looking forward in the sense that the best thing these players could do for this team is get a lottery pick.

There won't be any money for FAs, only money to maintain status quo.

They won't unload any boat anchor contracts to make space.

They have no trade chips that won't result in creating another hole, or salary that can't be paid.

Their youth may get ready/better but that in my mind is a minimum of two years out.

If I had a choice as a GM between a lottery pick and a quick playoff out with the #16 pick and two games of 65% of the gate in revenue, I'd take the lottery pick ALL DAY.
