The trade was an absolute win for the Devils. When Hall was healthy, he DOMINATES. Shero made that trade KNOWING the Devils were rebuilding. He is putting the pieces together. Finishing last with Hall is still the plan and there is nothing wrong with that.

And FYI, 87 and 97 cant carry a team either. Crosby needs Malkin. And the Oils are the Isles of the last 20 yrs.

Hall is nowhere near an 87 or a 97. He's comparable to an 81 at best.

Yes, that was kind of my point. And yet, he took the Devils to the playoffs last year. But 97 and 87 (without 71) cant. So its not expected that Hall carries the team but he did anyway. So that alone means that trade was a slam dunk.

larsson was the one guy I didnt want them to trade, but we got an MVP from it. Can't complain.

How can you say that? McDavid already has more playoff games than Hall. The supporting cast McDavid has isn't any better than the supporting cast Hall had as an Oiler. Crosby is a top five player of all time. So yeah, he could probably carry a team without Malkin.

The Hall for Larsson trade was the only move Chiarelli made any sense at all. Sure, it was a big risk and he wasn't getting maximum value, but if he had made smart moves besides that one, the Oilers would be a force right night.

Well Mcdavid made one playoffs as did Hall. Mcdavid squeaking into a second round. Not much difference there.

And I would say Mcdavid has an allstar in Leon. Throw in Nuge and whoever else. I dont remember the team Hall had, but having Leon is huge. Did you see the game winner last night? Those two are magic.

Larsson looked to be the perfect fit for the Oilers three years ago. He was exactly what they were missing and they had other players who were giving them what Hall was giving them. There wasn't a better defender available. He should have gotten a pick from Shero as well, but since Shero wasn't willing to give up Larsson plus a pick, it was still a decent risk to take.

Now about all the other moves Chiarelli made...
