The Devils organization has done a remarkably poopty job handling Yakovlev who is a dynamic gem from KHL. It’ll blow monkeys to see him bolt to another team as a free agent. How we found the guy and let him rot in the Bing is boneheaded. It’s worse but similar to picking JS Dea and then giving him away for nothing.

You keep talking about Dea as if he was good. He scored one goal in the first game then was garbage. He is a nothing player.

Hey Todd, great write up as usual. I do not have Twitter, but routinely check your tweets around games. Ignore that idiot who bashed your 4 points. It has been a tough season and some humor is a nice touch. That guy is a douche.

Why would we not want to keep such a versatile player in Yak?

Thank god. Because the last few years of the Schneider contract may be painful.

Nah, he's a top tier goalie.
He's pretty awesome imo.
Just hard to play to his peak level while injured.
See Carey Price for reference.
You guys get this spring off because of injuries.
Watch out next year.

He is top tier when healthy, problem is he will be 33 next year, has had a nagging hip injury and has 3 years at 6 mil left. Blackwood is a great insurance policy.

If Blackwood can turn into a #1 goalie Cory is an excellent backup to have for the 3 seasons yeah the contract sucks but I don’t see the devils having cap issues in the near future Hall will probably leave Nico and Jesper will get paid but nothing crazy

He put up 3 goals and 5 points in 20 games and is better then at least half the stiffs on the roster. Plus he was traded at the deadline. Not saying he was actually good but was an asset. We have plenty of empty contracts so there was no need to get rid of him. And why keep Drew ‘2 goals in 41 games’ Stafford?

Just saying it’s odd. But yeah who cares?

Yeah but they've dropped to 13 in the east. Losers of 4 in row. We're on the move.

We are driving Yak away for sure, which is unfortunate. He has earned more TOI than he is recieving. This team was poised to be a great oppurtunity for any D looking for a serious role, and what do we do? We play Lovejoy and Greene nonstop and keep all other potential D on the bottom pairing or healthied. I would be thrillled it Yak re-signed next year, but doubt he wants to be a Dev anymore. Honestly he would slot in perfectly with the Caps who need an affordable LD.

Blackwood has been great. A healthy Schneids splitting the duties with Blackwood is fine with me going forward. A 2 year bridge extension would be just what the Devs need to keep that duo affordable until Schneids is off the books as well.

Also noticed that Sylfverberg extension. Same age and similar production as Mojo. 5.25M AAV for the next 5 seasons seems like a reasonable comp.
