It has to be a depth move. Not sure he is really an upgrade over someone like Chris Butler though at this stage in his career. He is a very offensive style defenseman, although his stats do not show this as of late anyway. I don't think he is very good defensively however and a much smaller frame than guys we are accustomed to on the back end. Good thing is we only give up a 6th round pick for the guy who fits under the cap space and could be a low risk/high reward type move. He has been moved around so much in the last year or two and typically those type of players end up playing their way out of the NHL. Maybe STL can be the change of scenery and have the players on the back end that compliment his game and he can get back to productive form. His first year in the league he had close to 40 pts and 25-30 of those were on the PP. Those numbers have drastically decreased every year since and I don't think he is the savior for our PP or even the QB for our PP but he has been effective in that role before so again, maybe the change of scenery will pull him back up and save his career (for now)
