We basically got nothing for him. He has more value with us for the rest of the season than that return does

I agree. He's in clear decline.

However, he did have abdominal surgery last year (the same as Giroux had before his disaster campaign and then he came back with a 100 pt season) so he could rebound in a big way. but the flyers were never gonna give him the contract he wanted so better to get something

I know it's better to get something in return, instead of losing Simmonds for nothing at the end of the season, but Poile ate Fletcher's lunch on this trade. Other teams got better returns on their trades

I don't know that Simmonds makes Nashville that much better. But he'll be better than Hartman, so it's worth a mid-round pick for the rental just in case Simmonds can gel with Bonino on that 3rd line.
