I heard his name mentioned 1 time and I posted it a few weeks ago, not sure he is willing to give up what it takes. I did hear Botterill is willing to move 1 or 2 of the 1st round picks we have. Skinner's money will play into this game also, I heard it may get close to 9 a year. Before that I heard it was between 7.8 and 8.25 a year.

Botterill has never been a GM. He has plenty of accomplishments, however.

To a man, every player who has gone through Wilkes-Barre and been promoted to the mothership will tell you that it's Botterill at the top of the list of why they're successful NHL players.

There have been many articles written about it.

If he ends up sucking, he ends up sucking, but let's not cut off his balls before the fact. 18 months in, and people want to run him out of town. He has NOTHING TO DO with previous regime's failures. He deserves a shot, just like every other GM that has come through here.

We are not the Penguins, we don't have Crosby, Malkin, Letang, Kessel and Fluery to name a few. Way different situation.

Botts could have easily made trades last year and not sat on his hands in order to finish better then last place. Last place won the lottery. Could of ended up with Brady Tkchuk, or Filip Zadina instead of Dahlin if he makes desperation moves to try and make the playoffs or make the run to mediocrity like the Panthers always seem to do around this time of year.
- Pegullaville

Cmon, man. This is facile.

Everyone knew there was NEVER any chance that the Sabres would make the playoffs last year. And everyone knew there was generational talent at the top of the draft. Nobody on the board last year was female doging because Botterill spent the year watching and evaluating.

THIS YEAR IS DIFFERENT.

This is a year we really could have done something.

Everyone you listed Besides the last one, had winning seasons and playoffs... you think finishing dead last the next ten years will guarantee a cup??? No it won't, you need someone that knows how to build a team... You think. boots can do it, me and some other don't. Nothing wrong with having different opinions.
- gordong

I never said there was anything wrong w having differing opinions.

And what are you basing the next ten years of finishing dead last on? The previous general managers' failures?

Then he MUST fire Housely and bring in a coach who can actually teach this team how to succeed...

im saying we could have 10 years of top 4 picks and still not be in the playoffs if Botts dosent know how to build a team. You think he can, I and others don't.

I heard.
Fellow west sider (Gina F.) good friend of mine that relocated there told me earlier about it.

Tomorrow I am going out and battening down all of the hatches.
We are supposed to get 75mph wind gusts running through here on Sunday starting late morning into the evening.
Yikes.

Did you shovel?
🤣

Dahlin in two years is Letang, but better.

Fleury was a first round pick. If the Sabres picked a goalie in the first round, this site would implode. We might have our Fleury in UPL.

Kessel was a trade. No reason why he can't trade one of these 1st rounders and get us "a Kessel".

And (I'm not insulting you w this, but the question is legit) if you think we can't win because we don't have a Crosby or a Malkin, then why waste your time being a Sabres fan? The Bruins can win. Anaheim can win a Cup with late first round picks. Carolina can win it with Staal. Eichel can be as good, if not better.

And Botts helped develop Guentzel, Rust, Murray, just to name a few. Players who were instrumental in their last Cup.

I dont think that was the plan though. Berglund was supposed to be the defensive minded 2/3 center and Mitts was supposed to go up against lesser (3rd line) talent.
Sounds great on paper until Berglund sucks and leaves. I wouldn't be surprised if Botts put the feelers out for a decent defensive center and the asking price was too high. All the other GMs had him by the shorts. And 2C's dont grow on trees. Most teams want to keep theirs.

- seedy

StL moved Berglund to the wing bc they didn’t even like him at 3C
So for Botts to think he could hold down the fort at 2C was a terrible idea

It didn’t look good on paper
It was a long shot that didn’t work out
And no one should be surprised by it

it one of the reasons I have my doubts about the guy.... you don't trade away a 2nd line center without a solid plan to replace him, he failed badly this year at this.
