What Lou route are you referring to? In my opinion, the only thing he did wrong was wait to approach Parise. He shouldn't have waited but that might not have even mattered. Parise wanted to go home and Niedermayer wanted to play with his brother. IMO, those were the two that hurt the most and Lou made serious offers to both.

Heck, even though Holik and Gomez turned out to be disasters, Lou made serious offers to both. In the end, as Todd eluded to a bit, NJ isn't a destination spot and intrigue for other cities and markets has to exist with these players.

I'm referring to every damn player you can think of he's let walk in free agency. It even followed him to the Islanders with Tavares. Lou doesn't offer extensions, unless your Zajac, Schneider, and Greene. And he didn't do that until after years and years of losing out with his stubborn, hard headed ways.

I'd do a swap of Marner for Severson, but my goodness.. we'd be one actually useful mid-pairing dman down. Next year would be Vatanen, Smith, Greene, Butcher, Yakovlev, ..Santini? We gona go after Gardiner? pass. Del Zotto? yeesh. Stralman? yikes. Methot, Chariot, Petrovic, Kronwall, Polak, Engelland, Bouwmeester?

.. still worth it for Marner. That was the draft I was screaming us to trade up for him or Strome.
