Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks sign Michael Leighton to 2-way contract, recall Sautner With a long list of injuries and the trade deadline now just a few days away, the Vancouver Canucks have made some roster moves—signing AHL goaltender Michael Leighton to a two-way contract and putting him on waivers to be officially assigned to the Utica Comets, and recalling defenseman Ashton Sautner from the Comets while returning Guillaume Brisebois.

Who do you guess as most likely to be moved at the TDL?

Thanks Carol.

It would be really unfortunate for Sven to have to call it quits, but I think shutting down for at least the rest of this season would be the right call for him. Brain injuries are no joke.

The league should go to a 24 man roster if it wants to keep playing 82 games a year in a compacted schedule. I think the guys would get a bit more rest if they had 2 extra D and 2 extra F to rotate in and out of the lineup. Having that extra body on the roster will only ramp up the internal competition on a daily basis.

The timing of this Leighton signing is peculiar.

balancing injuries and having depth/prospects/players in the AHL is all apart of the business. No reason to change the roster limit because the Canucks are a fragile. League rules are fine.

Doubt the owners would want to pay another NHL salary too.

lol, well its silly to think the rules should change because our team is having a tough year with injuries and we lack the depth to maintain momentum, where other good teams are battling the same injuries we are but are keeping pace and staying competitive.

I think he has just been much better than they expected, so now they want to hang onto him for a Utica playoff run. They can also send Mazanec down when he's healthy, and return Kulbakov back to the ECHL, where he was supposed to play this year.

Could the Comets not have signed him ? Then sign him to a NHL contract at the end of the year?

It makes me wonder if Demko or Markstom are still having issues?

I've been suffering with post concussion syndrome for two and half years. Attended Sid Crosby's doctor. You're right... no joke

If you have suffered for two and a half years this is the wrong place to join

Spooner-Pettersson-Boeser
Roussel-Gaudette-Granlund

Schaller

Hutton-Stecher
Brisebois-Gudbranson
Pouliot-Biega
Schenn

So i take it ath Zac MacEwen will sit out the next game.
I'm ok with that.
he's played well and pushing for a spot which is good to see, but i'd like to see if Spooner can hang with EP and Brock.

Thanks Carol, Sautner is an overdue call up I think so I'm glad it's happening. Leighton is a nice story, and a better thrid string likely than some of the other guys. Utica makes the playoffs this year, Canucks next year. The fact that were even in the conversation mid-way february is a sign of improvement.
