As much as we could use an extra high draft pick you do make a great point in saying we are starving at depth for productive forwards.I still say a trade will happen as Mojo probably will be tempted to sign with a team closer to contending for Lord Stanley next year! |
|
|
|
Agree, but one thing you aren't pointing out is if he wants to re sign, and if he is asking for crazy money. I say if he can't be re signed by deadkine, move him for whatever we can. Can't afford to get
Nothing in return |

I don’t think the decision is more return driven then it is signing driven. Shero can negotiate with Mojo now. If he’s willing to sign at an agreeable rate keep him. If he wants to be a UFA then trade him.
Even if the return isn’t great it’s more then we will get watching him walk.
I’d think players usually know what they want. Ray needs to find out. Mojo seems like a straight forward guy. I could be wrong. |

If I were Ray, I'd reach out to the Pens about their 1st and offer Mojo and Lovejoy with half retained on both. Mojo can play any forward position on any of the top 3 lines and Lovejoy gives them some injury insurance. According to CapFriendly the Pens have about 3 mil in deadline space so if we kept half of the pro rated hits they should be able to fit them both. Then we can hope for the Pens to go out in the first round and wind up hopefully with something like pick #2 and pick #20. There's a bunch of pretty intriguing Dmen rated in the 20's that might not be NHL ready but could be future top 4s. |
|
|
|
I also just noticed we have 64 million in deadline cap space . Ray should just let all the GMs know we will accept any expiring contracts with picks so teams can make their moves. |

Eff that. We don't need anymore forwards. D help would be great, but it's hard to consider a washed up Lovejoy as help. |

Welp, we have Santini on a manageable contract and Mueller at under a million, or.....Eric Gryba, lol.
(frank) it, I guess NJ and Pitt aren't a match. |

I don't want Rutherford ever talking with Shero and his fleecing ways. |

Somehow I don't think Rutherford can be talked into a one for one Severson for Malkin deal. |

Best case scenario: a trade for a former first round pick who may have disappointed his team a little but has a good ceiling still ... or somehow weaseling a first round pick from a team in a buyer's market
Middle case scenario: a trade for a 2nd round pick and a career ahler
Middle case scenario: he signs a contract at what he's actually worth.
Worst case scenario: gm naively believes he can sign Mojo, doesn't, and he walks away for nothing
Let's see what happens! |

Todd Cordell: The Marcus Johansson conundrum - Todd.Cordell
I would love to rent him out for another 2nd rd pick, and take him back on at about 4.5M-5M AAV over 4 or 5 years. I wouldn't think twice about renting him out in the meantime. Chances are a contender wants him to bolster a 3rd line, and almost every contender can't afford to keep him for another year. Rent him without hesitation Shero. |

Haha Johansson would be a great 3C/3LW for you boys. You guys never keep your 1sts anyway. |

I would be disappointed if the return wasn't a 1st or something of similar value. Maybe I'm optimistic |

Ray has said that he considers cap space a real asset. Well it’s only an asset if you can turn it into something. This is a good opportunity. We will see what it’s worth. The day after the deadline it’s worthless. |

This is deadon. On Shero to get some assets at deadline. And again third or later picks are not good assets. |

Lucic, Bear and the Oilers 2019 1st for Santini and Johansson
I am going to say no. But just confirm the 1st is not lottery protected. |
