I agree with everything about the injury risk. It is crazy to expose vulnerable assets when your engaged in trade negotiations.

I don’t disagree on the worry about having enough runway to get a deal done.

A buddy assures me that there is nothing new here for Dorion. He has known the probability factor on each potential trade and that he is only minutes away from closing assured deals once he decides to pull the trigger.

I believe it has more to do with the LeBreton arbitration. There is over $200m in probable contingent liabilities that would immediatly go on the books as soon new deals were signed with the three players. Melnyk has never planned to allow new deals to be signed. The asset base shows better value on the books by keeping the asset and avoiding any new financial commitment.

if you guys could choose at this point, would you rather have Brady Tkachuk or their first rounder this year?

Tkachuk. I wouldn’t trade him for that pick back.

I was outspoken in my opposition to the Sens drafting Tkachuk. Thought they made a huge mistake.

Complete turn around on my part. Love the kid.

I actually have great hope for the future when, I look at Tkachuk and Chabot and know that Brown, Batherson, Wolanin and probably Paul are just a few moments away from being called up.

were you more in favor of them drafting Zadina instead of Tkachuk or were you mad that you wanted them to keep this year's first rounder instead?

Zadina.

My primary objection to Tkachuk was he was an early birthday. Had he been born just a few days earlier he would have been in the 2017 draft.

Never thought about delaying the pick to the following year.

We all know that Bruce is the primary propaganda source for messages that Melnyk wants to float out to the faithful. So, it is interesting to watch this video. The normally positive Garrioch is looking a little crushed as he finally acknowledges all these guys are likely going to be traded.

for myself, because of the draft and when the Rangers were picking, I was just not jacked about somehow managing to draft Tkachuk because I thought he'd stay in college 4 years, I was real surprised he left early.

I wish this organization had a better game plan (pun intended) that the fans could get onboard with.

I forget who pointed this out in another post but it's almost like Melnyk is trying his hardest to alienate the fan base so as to make it easier to move the team elsewhere.

It isn't the injuries that would concern me, that stuff happens. What would be a bigger concern is the return for Karlsson. They can't get a similarly uninspiring return.

Huh?

I don't think anybody is unhappy with the Karlsson return.

Norris has been very strong. They have one more 1st round pick coming. They have a very good chance they still have two firsts to come if San Jose wins in the West.

Hopefully a stone to Winnipeg deal is done this weekend and then you guys can focus on the other 2.

i really like the return for karlsson

demelo - 25 year old top 4 dman, who makes 900K and is a perfect fit with Chabot

tierney - young, excellent 3rd line center. either keep him and move pageau, or move tierney. could probably get a 2nd rd pick for him

balcers - kid is going to be a very good NHL player. high potential to be an impactful top 6 winger

norris - kid is going to be a stud, was tearing up the NCAA before he got hurt.

at the very least they're also getting a 2020 1st, and a 2nd....could be as much as three 1st's

i think ottawa did well in that deal

Hopefully, the deal includes a first round pick (guaranteed) and another first round pick (conditional) if the Jets make it to the Stanley Cup final.

Be fun watching Karlsson against Stone in the semi finals knowing that the Sens are guaranteed one more first round pick from the winner.

Not sure I agree with the upside you described, but it's your team so I can't really debate it. What was "rumoured" seemed a whole lot more significant than what was received.

In all honesty, The biggest thing i'm pissed about right now is that this should have been done early so that PD can focus on everything else like Ceci, Smith etc.

In my opinion what they should have done is try to sell the "Big three" on the future, got them signed early and started the process of seeing what we can get for players that aren't in the future for the Sens.

Then start building from there.

All good but swap one of appleton, Stanley, or Lemieux in for Vesalainen
Could also see another Moose player like Spacek or Harkins involved.

How are your prospects (forgive my spelling) Bathurst and fortenon looking?

I’m less confident this year as I was last year about the Jets chances. Maurice refuses to switch up the lines to help the overall team. We do kinda need a trade to shake things up.

That is a pretty good post.

Once you accept that you never get back what you have dealt (eg., Karlsson). You can only evaluate it on the basis of how it fits in with the rebuild strategy of the team.

i think the "roster guys" were probably rumoured to be a bit better......but if there is one thing i actually trust Dorion with it's his ability to judge a good prospect.

i think Balcers and Norris both have high upside......and having a 2nd 1st rd pick in 2020, a draft that is supposed to be really strong, is never a bad thing.

could the deal have been a bit better.....sure.....but all things considered, i think Dorion did okay.
