what's a realistic ask for Staal? I'd like Jets to ask about him but I'm not giving up a first rounder or top prospect. I'm thinking a 2nd rounder plus a B prospect but I'm sure Fenton would wait till the end to accept that to see if another team bites with their first rounder.

Curious, was Parise/Suter worth it?

parise and suter aren't the problem. its the pieces around them. too many of the same type of player on this team, good locker room guys/character, but don't bring a lot to the table other than that. the younger core guys they were banking on to develp and push this team over the top never did (zucker, coyle, nino, granlund). although i believe granlund would be much more effective with a selfish shooter on his line. too many of these guys look to pass first, theres no killer instinct on this team. theyve proven you can have all the character and leadership in the world and still go nowhere.

I tend to think Suter is a cancer to the team that ultimately got Yeo fired. Say what you want about Yeo, but this team has had multiple coaches and they can't get it done, so it's not coaching. I've heard that Suter clamors for who he wants to play with and is outspoken about it to the point where I think it causes that rift. I dunno for sure, just my take.

Parise - 49 pts +1 . 7.5 M
Suter - 38 pts +3 . 7.5 M

Kopitar - 42 pts -1 . 10 . M
Doughty - 31 pts -20 11 M don't get me started on Brown, Carter, Richards.

So compared to LA.......

I hate when people do that, Im not an LA fan.

My point is you have 7 yrs left with both of them. This isnt going to turn out well for the Wild. Especially with no Cups.

The Wild still have 2-3 more productive years with the pair. It puts them in an awkward position. There's not a lot of time for a rebuild, but "going for it" seems unlikely as well. I think they should sell this year, probably be bad next year, and then following year give it a real go with the pair. Not sure retaining Staal gets them closer to where they want to be

the biggest thing that has screwed this team is the draft picks and prospects fletcher gave away, also terrible drafting by him (no, im still not over the fact he drafted ek over boeser). this team sure could use alex tuch about now...

i think fletcher had a grand vision when he signed parise and suter, he just failed to execute it properly. cant fault the guy for swinging big on those two to get this team to relevance.

weren't they signed AFTER LA won a cup? Similar to what Chicago did with their players. They certainly area NOT the problem.

The problem? That's the million dollar question.

Fletcher made moves again similar to Chicago moving quality young players for experienced players hoping to have a chance to win a cup. Fortunately some of those moves worked out which helps a little with the struggles they are going through now.
No GM enters into a trade hoping it's one sided. He may be battling it a bit now but Dubey was almost out of the league when that trade was made. Pretty big win for MN there.

My 2 cents is its a combination of things. I don't believe the coaches over the years and especially BB make good adjustments in the playoffs. I think the players could be more accountable for themselves and their teammates.
Maybe it is the "superstar". Look at the teams that have won cups the past several years. You can argue there has been at least one superstar on those teams.
I don't think its within the locker room, but who knows. They have had players with cup experience here.

What would It take to get Charlie Coyle? I know the Penguins just brought McCann and Bjugstad but Coyle would be a nice addition.

Thanks again for giving us Niño for free. Hope Rask helps the 4C spot on the squad.

Both kopitar and doughty were drafted by the kings, not free agent signings. so thats kind of an apples to oranges comparison.

Of course it's easy in hind sight to say they weren't worth it. Derp. Were the contracts ridiculously long? Of course, but i'll gurantee ANY other team in the league would have done the same thing had they had the opportunity.

That kind of signing was obviously a gamble from the git go, but so is pretty much any kind of big move like it. Regardless of hind sight, it afforded the Wild a much needed opportunity to immediately enhance a fringe team. Obviously it hasn't worked out in the equivilance of a cup or even a cup final appearance. But a different move by Fletcher here or there and it easily could have. Well Fletcher struck out and now the Wild are lying in the bed he made.

Either way, the move was a positive one in my mind and 6 years of playoff appearances is proof enough. Unfortunately the back side of that deal is going to sting for the next several years but I can still live with that being both players are still very key cogs in any current or future success the wild might enjoy.

Bottom line here is that whether Parise/Suter are making 7 million a year or 1 million, they have both done their part in making this an all around better squad.

It's the ancillary pieces around them that have let THEM down. Bringing in cheap and aging help like Brown, Fehr, Hendricks did more to weaken them than it did actually help, and that is most likely due to the middling and inconsistent talent of guys like Coyle, Zucker and Nino among others.

Parise and Suter are still near the top of their game, unfortunately they are getting to the point where they can't keep up their own consistency in making up for the rest. If either player has an off night or a few "bad" games, it's easy to say they are the problem, when in reality this team isn't even in the playoff hunt without them.

To much was counted on by this team on a group of young players that had potential when Parise and Suter where signed. Not one of them stepped up with any consistency especially during the playoffs that helped these two out

Playoffs stats with Wild nothing stands out in this group.
Zucker 31 games 4 G 4 A -9 +/-
Coyle 44 Games 7 G 8 A -17 +/-
Granlund 39 Games 8 G 21 A 2 +/-
Koivu 55 Games 11 G 17 A -18 +/-
Nino 39 Games 8 G 10 A -7 +/-
Parise 36 Games 14 G 17 A -14 +/-
Stahl 10 Games 1 G 2 A -4 +/-

We let Haula go and keep Zucker, in my opinion Haula speed and defense would have been better then Zucker some time speed and sporadic scoring.

This team has not had a true sniper since Gabby. Then you look at the veterans brought in only one who had a solid contribution is Stahl. Pominville, Vanek, Hanzal, Heatly and Setoguchi not one was anything to write home about.

Coyle to me is the biggest disappointment. At times a game changer but most of the time just a body going thru the motions. I see potential in Greenway and Kunin and EK is Koivu replacement. Maybe getting the Russian here Kaprizov might help. T

Aberg got broken. And Rask has now as well. The youngsters are about the only fun thing to watch (Kunin, Greenway and even JEE) right now with this team. The vets on this team keep trotting out the same old "we can't play like this right now, we have to correct it" quotes...but nothing changes. Parise is still bring his A game every night. Granlund, Zucker, Coyle, Staal, Spurgeon, Brodin...and possibly Dubnyk have been moved to the front windows of the store so everyone can look at and bid on their services.

On a side note Gump, I hope the 3yr extension handed to Stalock didn't ruin your vacation.

Congrats, not really sure if your attempt at trolling is supposed to piss Wild fans off, or if you’re just a huge doosh, or both, but we don’t care, nobody wanted him here anymore because he clearly couldn’t cut it in the West.... of course moving to the east is going to make things a little easier for him.
