I’ve argued it for 3 months.

CJ Smith should be an NHL regular and we should have pushed to get a better center than Sobotka after the win streak.

- sbroads24

The point of the article is that we could probably get better at several positions by just playing guys in the AHL, or guys that Botts did not acquire in trades.

I think the article proves that the line up decisions are a group venture.
That jbotts maybe influencing who's playing, who's in buffalo/Rochester ect.

It's funny, I recently heard that botts isnt quite a laid back personality .

Aside from the alleged nacho bar incident, botts seems calm, cool and collected.

I must be getting very very boring. I actually spent the time to find that tweet.

And I was right, there is a tweet. But it has a problem.

He is a former professional athlete. I don't think many of them are laid back, in the conventional sense

Good post

Good question?

So maybe botts is telling phail to play sobotka the 4th most minutes of any forward on the sabres.
- starting hutton
- keep starting scandella
-call up cj , but bench him

I'm not sure what boundaries the gm has.

Its weird too. He's the one who got Beaulieu but has decided to let Scandella keep going when NB in my view is at least as effective as MS. Even in the girlfriend department (they both have smokeshows for ladies).

Why wouldn't jbotts want phail to play beaulieu?
Good question

As well as hunwick? A jbotts guy.

Continue to play okposo?

Maybe we'll have answers at the deadline.

I'm 85% sure the Sabres will make no NHL moves at the deadline

This JB guy vs not JB guy thing is pure fiction. They are trying to win games with a very young lineup.

I can see small deal or 2.

Probably add an ahl player to boost Rochester for the playoffs.

Trade away bowl u for a 4th

Skinner if he really wants to be a ufa July 1st.

The draft , July 1st and the off season in general seems like jbotts timing

Then wouldn't human nature lead jbotts to play "his guys"?

See:
Tall Tage sticking with buffalo
Scandella has struggled but stays in the line up

I feel like it's a management team, but to what degree?

I'm not going to say it's no factor. He's acquiring guys he thinks are good fits. You've pointed to JB guys who don't play....I just don't think there's anything underhanded going on here. They want to win.

Tage is a top 4 RW in the organization. Don't think that's debatable, despite his struggles.

I'd love to know what they say about Scandella behind closed doors. I'm not sure what they really think about analytics, but I'm sure they are aware of the numbers.

Well, if there is one thing about Botts that you can almost say with certainty is you’ll never have to worry about a time where he wore blackface. There’s no way. Too much of a straight edge. Dude hasn’t gone through a yellow light in his life.

Tage is the one guy who is arguably has a greater likelihood of success than his replacement from Rochester.

How does playing Slobotka and Scandella help them win? To quote the article:

In 52 games, the 31-year-old Sobotka has contributed 10 points. His last goal came on November 8 which marks a 36-game drought. It’s not as though he’s helping defensively either. His relative Corsi of -7.11 is the worst mark on the team (excluding the recently demoted Remi Elie).

Who is the organization protecting by continually deploying one of the most irrelevant, ineffective players that the Sabres have iced in the last five years? For a player like Smith, the patience argument is completely nonsensical given his age and the fact that he’s played nearly 100 games a the AHL level so, what gives?

It’s nearly impossible to argue that players like Smith, Danny O’Regan, or even Victor Olofsson could somehow make the Sabres’ depth scoring issues worse.

The same reasoning holds for Scandella, but it doesn't require AHL guys to get called up, just Beualieu of Pilut who have shown at least as much ability when they're given a chance. How much worse could they be? And isn't it possible they're better?
