Fine only, no lost time. He was getting fleeced by the boards.

I’d rather take the stick grazing my helmet than the punch to the head, if he doesn’t get suspended get your boat ready for the river of tears that will come from Philly

Thank you for ending any hopes and dreams of a first round shellacking by Tampa and letting us be the sellers we are!

grinder is so happy that Malkin shows some balls
- martox

Swinging your stick at a dude's face is "showing some balls?"

Granted, what Raffl did was a Richard move and should have been a penalty, at least a minor if not a double-minor. That said, if you want to "show some balls" then do the same back to Raffl. There is never ever a reason to wildly flail your stick at head level. Again, Flyers got away with the Raffl punch and Coots took a huge liberty with the Letang cross check into Murray, but stick swings to the head should never be condoned. But, since the league judges by result not intent, I'd say Malkin probably gets 1-2 games.

That said, it was a good game, Murray was fantastic last night. Looking forward to the 23rd.

You're welcome... now trade us Ghost for JJ and a 1st since your fanbase has a chunk of haters for him.

hey I am talking about grinder here. In my mind that was just stupid but he will say Malkin showed balls to do that and that he likes it.

I don't disagree with you at all about which would hurt more. That said, intentionally swinging your stick at a guy, ever if you miss completely, should be a suspendable offense. Obviously hockey and the American judicial system are not the same thing, but it's why attempted murder carries the same sentence as murder.

But, since the NHL doesn't seem to care what you do and has the, "No harm, no foul" mentality, we shall see.

Edit: For the record, I wanted Gudas suspended for life when he chopped Perrault last year.

My bad.

And I would say that Malkin had every right to beat the piss out of Raffl, who should have been penalized. If he'd turned around and demolished Raffl, I'd just say that Raffl had it coming.

I'd say the league will take into account that Raffl wasnt injured, how badly he dove and that Malkin doesn't have a history of suspensions. My guess is a fine or 1 game for Geno.

Does anyone know if the hearing today is by phone or in person? If its in person then I'm probably wrong about the outcome.

I thought Malkin looked pretty good last night, especially after a little lay off. Sucks might lose him again.

Absolutely. There are enough instances where sticks and skates come dangerously close to injury completely by accident. There is no room for doing this intentionally.

So on Malkin being a moron... does it matter or have any punishment effect that he appears to not look at Raffi when he swings? I can view that as even more reckless but also as less intent due to not targeting.

Only redeeming factor is he didn't actually do damage to Raffl.

Keith got 6 games when he destroyed Coyle's face.

Nyquist got 6 games when he destroyed Spurgeon's face.

Johansen just got 2 games in January and his was on a similar level as Malkin's.

He was given a match penalty which is given when intent to deliberately injure a player occurs and carries an automatic suspension.

It might. He wasnt looking when he swung his stick around so its hard for league to say he had the intent to hit Raffl in the head. He still is however responsible for his own stick and should never swing it like that. On the other side it totally looked like Raffl meant to punch Geno in the back of the head.

.

It could be argued he wanted to hit Raffles body, stick or shoulder. None of that would injure.

He swung his stick in a manner that is in no way a hockey play. It was intent to injure.

As does instigating a fight with less than 5 minutes to play.

Not necessarily man. I dont how many times Ive been playing hockey and frustrated who Im playing against and they have slashed me or swung a stick at me in frustration. A lot of times these are good buddies of mine. They dont want me injured and it was never the intent. Just like Geno, it was a split second response in frustration. He wasn't looking at the guy either.

I agree he should never ever swing a stick like that but to think or automatically assume he had intent to injure in a fraction of a second, I dont know.

I've seen enough from the Flyers going back a long time. I honestly couldn't care less.

I don’t care what team it’s versus. That’s the kind of poop that should never be in the game of hockey. He legit swung his stick at his face.

Intent to injure doesn't have to be a rational thought. He swung his stick at a guys face. That is intent to injure.

I dont think he tried to hit him there. I think he was trying to wack at his body or should area. Again, it shouldnt happen, but it was a split second response out of frustration of being cross checked in the back then punched in the back of the head by same guy.
