Looking like D corps.is losing Maatta but gaining Schultz... So in relation to past 4 months, overall the D is getting stronger. Schultz > Maatta.... But who knows, Maatta might not be gone long.

I think bjugstad is just a good hockey player and his style of play will mesh well with either Crosby or Malkin, so he’ll find success playing wing. But to maximize team success he 100% has to be playing center.

I know he needs some time to settle in, that Sheahan and Brass were stale in PGH, and that he had a goal tonight, but I don't see anything that excites me about Bjugstad. He plays like he's 5'-9", not sure if he has a pulse, and can't bury (despite the goal tonight). My early evaluation is that the only way he performs to his salary is proving to be a solid 3rd line center.

Malkin should probably get 4, will only get 2. That was stupid and could have turned out really bad. Flyers player was an idiot though for punching him in the back of the head.

This whole season it has seemed to me like Malkin is dealing with some personal issues away from hockey. His head has not been in the game at all this year.

I mean, yes Maata is marginally better than JJ, Petterson etc but it's not a huge dropoff. Never want a guy to get hurt but I'm more concerned that if he is out long term they won't be able to trade him.

It's a sad thing with Maata. He had such great potential, but he needed to get better at skating and he has actually gotten worse somehow. Add to that he is fragile and very easy to play against and I think he is very replaceable.

It is the NHL, so I have no idea what Malkin is going to get, although he is getting something. Make no mistake, the only reason Raffl didn't get a penalty there was because of the blown call on the Flyer goal.

Geno was good in October and then that was it, poof. Something happened to him.

There will be numerous comparisons between Maatta and Johnson in the coming days. One thing no one will mention is the fact that Johnson has played RD exclusively and Maatta has been strictly a LD. Getting Shultz back will limit Johnson's TOI and Maatta's time will be made up by either Riikola or Petterson.

Yes Maatta's athletic abilities aren't the best but he at least has a high hockey IQ, I'd take him over JJ all day. We should most definitely be dman shopping now.
