I wouldn't even want to do that, honestly. Keith right now is better than Johnson, but Keith is also not very good anymore and in a state of decline. I think the $5.5 mil contract is more burdensome than Johnson's.

I wouldn't give up so much but I would do a trade based around JJ for Keith. He is still a better player and has a lower value if you bury him in the minors, not to mention he could retire early.

Not to mention he could turn a page and get closer to his old self.

My favorite chart is the zone exit/zone entry one. I think that’s really telling of how a player contributes.

He doesn't care anymore.

In his first couple years he made a lot of moves that had sound analytic back bones. Sutter for Bonino, Perron for Hagelin, Bortuzzo for Cole, signing Eric Fehr, signing Matt Cullen the first time, trading for Justin Schultz. I may be missing a couple, but that;s pretty much all of his moves the first few years besides the Neal-Hornqvist trade which I think was a sound even swap that didn't really need the help of analytical analysis, the Kessel trade which was a no brainer, and the Depres for Lovejoy trade.

All of these fly in the face of numbers moves that have been going on are mostly post-Botteril moves. I think Bots was the progressive one in the office and managed to convince Rutherford that analytics are important. I think right now our FO is filled with with old school hockey guys that really don't give a damn about numbers so there's really no one in the room to voice that perspective.

Goc was also an advanced stat monster

Goc was a Shero get. Rutherford just resigned him and eventually traded him for Lapierre cus Goc absolutely sucked that last year.

Yeah stat Sam. He’s still employed by them. Depends on how much GMJR actually relies on him. Maybe Sam worked with Botts more than GMJR and Botts was better at manipulating Sams opinions so GMJR understood them.

Increasing evidence that he doesn't at all anymore.

So only 96 minutes tracked for Rikkola but he seems to be decent at entries and exits and breaking up entries...which is what I expected. If he could turn down the errors then he'd be fine.

He just needs time in the AHL to work on some of the basics. I think he can be a solid player, he was just rushed up due to the Schultz injury.

For how overall bad he's been, I think he has a decent amount of potential if he settles in and is deployed on his natural side. We have done him zero favors with his deployment.

CJ does the viz primarily but Corey Sznajder did all the tracking. Corey is doing stuff with tableau now too though.

It is only 6 games. Need 20 games worth of data before going to any conclusions.

I know I know...I just cant say that Rikky sucks. That drive to the net when he beat the defender to the outside and almost scored vs the Canes...it was so f'n refreshing to see. He skates well. He hits well.

I’m more impressed with Rikkola’s stats there and not surprised by JJ.

only 96 minutes...and I have no idea which minutes because he didnt look very good at all in the beginning of season then was scratched a long time but after he came back into the lineup he started putting forth some really good shifts during games.

Basically zone entries are okayish. Zone exits are okayish. Zone defense he either breaks the play up or gives up the zone with possession. Not a good sign that he doesn't force dump ins that much. Maybe an NHL speed adjustment for gap control and whatnot.
