They Pens should be able to not implode without Geno for a little while. Coaching has always been a concern of mine when it comes to Sully.

What all of us are saying:

DO NOT PLAY JACK JOHNSON WITH JUSTIN SCHULTZ WHEN HE RETURNS!

What Sully has on a post-it note on his desk:

PLAY JACK JOHNSON WITH JUSTIN SCHULTZ WHEN HE RETURNS!

Last night I’d like Downie. Never a snooze fest with him in the lineup.

I mean, when your options for 2nd line center are a guy who has played wing the past 2-3 years, a 42 year old 4th liner and a 22year old 4th liner it's more of a GM issue than a coaching issue.

I'd prefer Bjugstad playing C too but this just proves that they brought him in to be a winger. I think it also shows that there are more moves coming.

I think I'm the only one who took positives out of last night. When I really think about what I watched last night the two things I really dont like are:

1)How they came out of the gate and started the game/1st period.

2)Coaching decisions.

#1 can sometimes be on the coaching as well....

What realistic trade could you make to dump Johnson? Realistic is hard because you have too make assumptions about GMJR's likes/dislikes and the other GM.

I've got it!!!

Zach Werenski for JJ. Straight up!

Just avoid the wild card and potential match up with TB. Hoping for some improvements with return of JS. Still worried that Geno doesn’t have it like before. Can Murray play the remaining games or will the injury bug finally take its toll? Still waiting for GMJR to pull the trigger. He will. Right or wrong, he will. Just nothing easy about this team.

I think he has some serious long term potential. I don't think he is quite ready for the 2c role... Though to be fair, Cullen wasn't up for it either.

Ready for it... JJ for Dion Phaneuf. Trade 4 years at 3.25 for 2 years at 5.5. Probably about the same player. Maybe LA would do it for nostalgia sake.

Really though, I'd be looking to do JJ to Montreal with a 3rd rounder for a 7th rounder back. MTL was linked to them previously.

That was all smoke from JJs agent. MTL already has Alzner to fill the JJ role.

Fixed

Pretty much every other dman in the league is at worst, as good as him for a fraction of the price.

You think? Alzner is/was definitely overrated and a product of being surrounded by a great defensive team, but I don’t know that he’s as close to as bad.

Only one year less term, higher cap hit, both on the wrong side of thirty, not that much better than Johnson to offset his higher cap burden. Barely even plays in the NHL anymore.

Yeah, I'd take Johnson's contract over his just because its a smaller number. Both suck ass and Alzner only has one year less of term at a higher hit. Not to mention Alzner also has a NTC so he can't be exposed at the expansion draft.
