He has a lot of work to do. He does almost none of the little things well.

I agree with most of how they project him in the blurb provided other than the use of words like “elite” which he’s obviously far from rn

Well best of luck Sheahan, I really did like ya, hope you have success down there....Brassard Im a tiny bit jaded with and I really think you'll see better production down the line...but the guy has been traded a lot, bit of a diva perhaps?
- MattStrat

I liked him too but he was being misused. And just like that, we're down to one Domer when we used to have 3

He's the same age as Draisaitl, Nylander, Ehlers, Vrana, etc.

I wouldn't expect much more progression from him going forward.

- BINGO!

I agree...but with new city and complete new cast of characters including coaches and systems around him, he might. You can improve at or around 22 years old.

Yeah I mean who knows. Florida has been real bad the past two seasons. Don't think we should expect McCann to thrive here, but it is possible.

30ish points in the bottom 6 aint that bad.

He's pretty young and by all accounts fast...so he could be a little spark plug.

Brassard and sheahan were gone after this year. Seems like the pens made this trade to get stability at the center position for the next few years. Bjugstad has been a steady player on a bad team and McCann is still very young. Seems like now they can finally put to rest the center debacle and build around that

I’ve been watching McCann since his time in Vancouver. I certainly don’t expect you to take my word for it. But the kid is 22. I just made a list last weekend for guys that looked somewhat promising but didn’t really breakout until 23-24 and the list is long. Is it possible we’ve seen his ceiling? Of course it is, but I don’t think it’s fair. Last two years he’s on a ~33 point pace on some pretty lackluster Florida squads that were what they were, injured and top heavy. I think McCann is actually the 3C here and I think his production playing with, say Pearson and Hornqvist will improve his QoT. Doesn’t it kind of have to? Wouldn’t that indicate increased production?

Yeah last year he produced at 1.9 pts/60 at even strength which is quite good, but he seems to be the type of dude that coaches hate. We'll see if he can stay out of Sullivan's doghouse.

Was it last year Florida went on a crazy, crazy run in the last few months but still came up short of the playoffs by a point or two?

Yeah well, he's coming into the house Sid and Geno built now. A team with a f load of champion vets. He might smarten up.

I don't remember. And I will say also that while he was wracking up even strength points last year, McCann was in a pretty bad shooting percentage funk, so it doesn't seem to be inflated. I think its a good flyer to take. There's some upside there even if its not all that much.

Not much though. And Bjugstad has (frank)ing sucked this year. I dunno. I don't really like the deal for anybody.
- BINGO!

I kind of had the same thoughts on this one. Brassard has more points, albeit, in less games than Bjugstad.

I agree. The more I look into all of this and think about the more I like this trade....but just losing Sheahan though, not a fan... He deserved better this season.

I'm not sure cap works out without moving him, is the thing.

Probably not. I asked around here the other day if anyone knew the Pens official cap space when Schultz returned...and this was after the Oleksiak trade.

Anyone?

If you’re a FL fan I think you have to like the deal. A 2nd, two 4ths. Sportsnet just did an article on the value of a 1st round pick in trades. For centers it’s a 3C, gotta figure Brass brings in something around that. Florida maybe hangs on to Sheahan. The big thing for FL is obviously the cap space they just opened up for this summer. They also put my buddy McGinn on waivers to try to clear more immediate space. I love that Tallon is making moves, I just wish he hadn’t given Reimer all that term and money years ago

Vic is right. I read we’re now at $1MM in space when schultz returns. This trade apparently moved us upward roughly $250K

So in Bjugstads first 3 full seasons he was averaging around 1000 faceoffs a season with around a 50% success rate....

I like it! Definitely isnt a bad trade and could turn out to be a very good trade. I think buying low on players is always the best way to win a trade. Still wish we got Domi over Brassard Took enough heat on that last year on here haha
To the trade I think Bjugstad is better then brassard at both ends. Still think Bjugstad ends up at 3C in time. Mccann has potential to be a decent 3C as well. I liked Sheahan but I think Mccann is marginally better now and he is 5 years younger.

So once you hit 22/23 you are what you are?

Ask Couturier about that.
