He has to be the de facto 3C unless something changes. The Penguins have no one else that can handle that role. No way old man Cullen can play it. I like Teddy Blueger, but he isnt ready for it yet either.

Plus the Penguins already have their RWers, I cant see anything changing there.

Penguins need to sit Cullen. He isnt giving us anything and when ZAR gets back, they will have a log jam of bottom liners: Blueger, Wilson, ZAR, McCann, Rust, Simon, Bjugstad. That's 7 guys, all of whom I think are better than Cullen. No reason to keep playing him.

I could see them thinking

Jake - Sid - Bjugstad
Rust - Geno - Kessel
Pearson - McCann - Horny

Well best of luck Sheahan, I really did like ya, hope you have success down there....Brassard Im a tiny bit jaded with and I really think you'll see better production down the line...but the guy has been traded a lot, bit of a diva perhaps?

I like the trade from both sides. We got younger and maybe we’ve seen the ceiling from Bjugstad but I think McCann has more to give. I’m curious how our lines are going to shake out now. I like the move for FL as well. Obviously they’re clearing space and looking to bring in some guys in the offseason. I could honestly see them trading a 2020 1st in a package with Brassard + for Panarin if both teams can start negotiating extensions. It makes some sense

I honestly love this trade despite Bjugstad will probably take a little time to adjust to C.

Obviously we have to wait and see, but I like it.

I'm going to go with positive since I've hated Brassard's time here. Obviously don't know what the other options were. I've seen some damn goods game out of Bjugstad but honestly haven't watched the Panthers much.

The Sid line of Jake-Sid-Horny is pretty much set in stone, but Horny has had success on the 3rd line. Not sure why we'd try to fix the 1st line, the first line isnt the problem. The problem is getting little production from our third line, not sure adding McCann to that 3C spot helps, even with better wingers.

I would bet Rutherford wants that 3rd line to be bigger (which is funny considering we won two cups with speed). Unless something goes wrong, have to think Bjugstad starts on the third line. Not worth debating extensively until we hear from Rutherford. He is pretty candid so I'm sure he will flat out say where Bjugstad is going to play.

CHART TIME!

3 year look at the two new bloods

This year

Brass and Sheahan this year, incase we havn't seen it enough. (Sheahan near the same over 3 years, not much better... Brass... we know he 'was' better).

22 year old, 30-35 point, former 1st round pick. Wouldn't expect any progression past that level really.
- Feds91Stammer

He was projecting as middle 6 when drafted in Vancouver. Personally, I like the kid and I think he’s actually going to be a 40-45 point player as he continues into his mid 20’s

Concern would be that the only "good" season the past 2.5 seasons was while he was playing wing and primarily riding the coattails of Barkov and Dadonov who are both absolute studs.

I don’t think anyone can say Hornqvist playing with Sid is set in stone. Didn’t Hornqvist play all of last game with Brass or was that 2 games ago? Regardless, he’s been moved all over this year and certainly isn’t a lock to stick with anyone. Doesn’t he typically look better with Malkin anyways? I certainly think so. He even got some time with Geno AND Phil last game, didn’t he?

Nah..... Getting rid of Sheary was like Christmas for me.....maybe getting a car for Christmas. This was more of a nice 4th of July for me. I do love the 4th of July however.

Its not a sexy trade, but I think I like it. We get two options to try at 3C in Bjugstad and McCann, so the probability that something works is decent here. Brassard simply wasn't working out, and while I think at one time in the near past Brassard was vastly better than Bjugstad, that may not be the case anymore. I floated the idea of Bjugstad back when we needed to replace Bones, so I don't dislike him, but I don't expect him to be a world beater.

McCann seems like that guy that's perpetually on the verge of a breakout and never actually does so I have no idea how he'll work out. Can he play wing or is he a strict C?

EDIT: replace Bones* not trade Bones

LOL the streak continues! McCann will wear #19 in Pitt. Have we ever won a cup with a #19 on the regular roster? Does anyone know this?

He's the same age as Draisaitl, Nylander, Ehlers, Vrana, etc.

I wouldn't expect much more progression from him going forward.

How about Marcus Johansson??? Currently playing LW for the Devs but was previously a C when he played for the Caps. Great vision, great conditioning, and 30 playoff points in 72 games would be exactly what you need as a rental 3C. Probably get him for a 2nd rd, become 1st should he remain a pen (which would likely not be the case).

Beau was still rostered when we won the Cup in 15-16, but he didn't play enough to get his name on the Cup. I don't know why guys here keep picking that number. Its obviously (frank)ing cursed.
