Before you get too excited Bjugstad had been playing as 2 RW and has played very little C the last 3 seasons. McCann had been playing as 4 C and on PP2
- Feds91Stammer

Even based on that, the Penguins have to plan to put Bjugstad as 3C. Pens have literally no one else that can reasonably play 3C, plus the Penguins are deep enough at RW.

I really wanted to keep Sheahan. He's good and hadn't been used properly or even fairly this year.

I can't say I am a huge fan of the players received but I think PIT gets a marginal upgrade and has players locked in for next season as well now.
- Feds91Stammer

Sure, but does locking into more money for next year actually help them much?

Like, they're a little better, but now they have almost 79 million committed to next season already with only 10 forwards and 4 D signed.

22 year old, 30-35 point, former 1st round pick. Wouldn't expect any progression past that level really.

I'm excited. Brassard was floundering here. I like Sheahan however.

I wonder if they flip Brass to Cbus? Hasn't there been rumors about Florida getting Panarin.

I really think GMJR has a total infatuation for players that were drafted 1st round no matter how good they are...just look back at his trades and pick ups.

Not going to lie... I don't understand this one. Bjugstad is never healthy and struggling this year. there is upside he could bring but is not a sure thing by any means. I like McCann but he is not a huge impact maker.

Im fine with the player swap but the Pens should have been getting picks here, not giving them away.

Don't think it is a good move necessarily but I believe they got better players in return.

Not including this season, Bjugstad has played 5 full seasons in Florida. 4 of those seasons were good, especially given his team. Clearly he hasnt been doing well this season.

I think $4.1M for a 3C is reasonable. I'm not concerned about his contract or $ amount.

Well he has Jordan Staal size anyways...and Im pretty sure reading in seasons before his defensive metrics are great....I could be wrong

Bjugstad does have good fancy metrics. The big questions though are what tempo can he play with and can he effectively play as a 3C.

Is McCann capable of the 3C role with decent wings?

Heres what elite prospects said about McCann...i ahve no idea if this came out of him or not

"A highly intelligent finesse player who fits the mould of the traditional two-way center. An excellent skater who displays consistent agility. Tremendous release on his shot, but can get caught thinking instead of doing. Transition game is elite, and his quickness at switching from defence to offence is so abrupt that it catches a lot of players off-guard. The work ethic, talent, and hockey sense is all there, but the biggest thing is that McCann needs to be more confident in his abilities. When he is on his game he can be dominant, and when he is offensively and defensively assertive, he is near impossible to stop. As he continues to grow into more prominent roles, he will develop more upward-trending habits and become more consistent. His potential is that of an elite offensive forward who can make an impact on the game at both ends of the ice"

Based on point production sure. Based on underlying metrics probably not.

Well... what is the percentage of players in the NHL that were first round picks? I would assume that there is a higher 1st round pick population in the NHL than the rest given the likelihood of them making the show.

He has to be the de facto 3C unless something changes. The Penguins have no one else that can handle that role. No way old man Cullen can play it. I like Teddy Blueger, but he isnt ready for it yet either.

Plus the Penguins already have their RWers, I cant see anything changing there.

Penguins need to sit Cullen. He isnt giving us anything and when ZAR gets back, they will have a log jam of bottom liners: Blueger, Wilson, ZAR, McCann, Rust, Simon, Bjugstad. That's 7 guys, all of whom I think are better than Cullen. No reason to keep playing him.

Let's just say there is pretty good reason why he has been traded twice now. Definitely not a high ceiling player.
