So the team doesn't need to improve it's goal tending and offense? If we are in agreement that the team needs to improve everywhere, and that we probably won't be challenging for the cup next year, then we sure as hell should not be trading Simmonds for a 4-5 Dman. I'd rather get a first round pick and let our young Dmen play all of this year and next. Hell, come January next year all of our young D could be better than Murray. Simmonds for him would be foolish and a waste.

Murray for Simmonds would be a really good deal for the Flyers.

I believe there a number of reasons why trading Simmonds has merit. The poster simply failed to make one.

My goal for a Simmonds trade would be something like this:

To Boston: Simmonds
To Philadelphia: Ryan Donato, conditional 3rd rounder on if Boston gets to the finals then turns to first rounder, or turns to first rounder if Simmonds re signs.

or

To Toronto: Simmonds, Hagg, 2019 4th rounder
To Philadelphia: Jeremy Bracco, Mason Marchment, Nikita Zeitsev, 2019 3rd

I wouldn’t touch Zeitsev....Toronto has some nice pieces, better then these. They are also going to have trouble paying everyone going forward. I think they are ripe to give up more because of this...just a guess on my part.

The Boston one is interesting although I haven’t been a big fan of Donato.

Gudas and Sanheim are not already better than he is. On that list, by next January, I'd rank Murray as 3rd possibly 4th depending on how fast Sanheim continues to develop.

I do agree with those who feel that his injury history is a big concern.

I think you have the 100% untouchables in Hart and Provy..
Then the 99.9999999999% untouchables in Coots and Patrick.
Then the 99.1% untouchable in Giroux.

Coots is young enough and really hasnt hit his prime yet that he should be viewed as part of the core now and in 2-4 years when they should be serious contenders. You just dont move him unless you are getting a Hedman or similar player back which you wont...

Gudas and Sanheim are not already better than he is. On that list, by next January, I'd rank Murray as 3rd possibly 4th depending on how fast Sanheim continues to develop.

Fletcher’s handful of other players that don’t make sense to trade include Couturier, Provorov, and Hart. After the Giroux won’t be traded comment to silence the idiots about Giroux, now come the rash of idiots about these three. The fight for sanity in Flyers fandom never ends.

He seems well reasoned, thoughtful and I think he deserves a shot at getting this thing turned around. Hextall drafted well, but I’m not sure he could have taken this team to the next level. Obviously there’s no guarantee that Fletcher is that guy either, but he’s smart and experienced and I think he has the capability to make the moves necessary to get this team back into Cup contention soon.

Love everything he said. Obviously there are a couple other untouchables but they're quite young and you don't want to give kids with room to grow an ego.

I think Simmonds will be dealt. It just doesn't make sense for us to give him the kind of deal someone is going to overpay for on the open market. If the re-signs it will be due to him taking a big discount to stay put imo.

But yeah, he's just crooked Dave Scott's yes man.
