I thought the whole idea of making the playoffs was beating four teams and winning a trophy.

Yes, you must win four rounds of the playoffs to win the Cup, but it's a thin line from winning it and going out in round one. Didn't the Caps lose the first two games in their own rink in round 1 and barely squeak through to round 2? Miss Boston, win Round 1 and see where it goes from there. Boston lives rent free in the Leafs psyche, so another matchup is desirable. Leafs need to make a couple of moves to take the Bruins physical edge away from them.
