I would think that Hamiltons trade value would be hurt by the multiple trades.

It seems to be a big conversation peice when talking about him

- senstroll

That one's weird to me.

For some guys it's seen as a plus, because teams really want them, and for others it's a negative for some reason.

As one guy put it... "Oh no, Niederreiter's been traded twice already and he's only 26. Does he have character problems or is that only something that only applies to guys leaving Canadian teams?"

(frank)er likes Museums. What a freak.

This piece from Eric Francis after trashing him after he left is kind of funny.

EDMONTON – Dougie Hamilton wants to set the record straight.

He’s not a huge fan of museums.

“Not really,” chuckled the Hurricanes defenceman following Sunday morning skate in Edmonton.

Too bad, as the 25-year-old was welcomed to Raleigh last summer with invites to several galleries.

It's funny how Leafs fans get their personal whipping boys - and we just feel so entitled to rip them a new one.

Every day on here I read how terrible Gardiner is.

FFS, he's playing with Zaitsev, who makes more than him.

Why are we ripping Gardiner and ignoring Zaitsev?

Zaitsev is franking horrible.

- Atomic Wedgie

You gots that the wrong way round Weginald.

Zaitsev without Gardiner 84GP 38P
Zaitsev with Gardiner 107GP 17P

Gardiner without Zaitsev 407GP 163P
Gardiner with Zaitsev 129GP 76P

Rough numbers, but they're pretty accurate

Niederreiter is a great example. the 2 times he was traded, those seasons his on ice PDO tanked and of course as a result his GF%, the teams trade him..if you ignore the 5 seasons in between of (frank)ing great results...

look at the season he was traded from NYI . his PDO was .909 (obsurdly low) he was on the ice for 3 goals for and 30!! against at 5v5 thats a 9.09% gf%

so they trade him because i am sure it looked awful when he was on the ice.

5 seasons in a row his gf% climbed and he was over 60% the last 2 seasons...but this year it tanked again...and he is traded.

anyways.. he is elite when it comes to possession, a (frank)ing steal for the canes

Faulty analogy.

Hamilton is a gifted offensive RHD with wheels - perhaps the rarest commodity for skaters - while Nino is a winger. Big, big difference. Why would multiple teams give up on this guy if there wasn't some truth to character issues?

maybe Phil Kessel is a better example.
the stories about his prospect interviews, being awkward and his time with the Leafs he was torn down for his character.

traded a couple times.

imo sometimes if you dont fit in a certain box you get tagged with "character issues"

With Babcock, you earn your ice time. Matthews, for all of his scoring prowess, is not scoring. The whole idea of making the playoffs hinges on who you play in the first round. Leafs seem to lose late in playoff rounds, so getting home ice is imperative. Boston is a nemesis team for us, so maybe playing the Habs or Tampa is a better matchup. At least we get the Habs a couple of more times and we may be able to control who we play, as long as we can hold on to second place, in the Atlantic.
- PrinceLH

I thought the whole idea of making the playoffs was beating four teams and winning a trophy.

A contender shouldn't be concerned with playing opponent X over opponent Y. If you're not confident you can beat whatever team stands between you and your goal then you have some work to do.

yes, I actually think the Habs would be a tough matchup for the Leafs.
Hope im wrong

the Habs are pretty good and I dont like that

- senstroll

Sounds like you are projecting based on previous experience, not the current teams They have one decent line which will be line matched and game planned against all series. The Leafs would be just fine.

It's because Dougies a big, awkward, kind of formal dweeb.

He doesn't fit the mold of your typical hockey player because he seems to be more of a quiet introverted guy. If you have a bunch of brash, outgoing guys on the team he's probably not going to fit in with the club.

Apparently Shanny was kinda like that - a little too cerebral for the rest of the guys in the room.

So maybe the MLSEL braintrust isn't so scared of that.

Yep.

Dougie's made some jokes about it, saying it's not true and he doesn't really like museums, but also said he knows the truth behind what happened and he knows that Canadian reporters have a job to do.

Reading between the lines, I think what he's implying is that Shannon was fed something from the organization because the Flames needed to do the "he's got character issues" thing in case Hamilton lit it up or Hanifin/Lindholm didn't pan out the way they have.
