Can't see him dealing Montour, he's exactly the type of defense man the Ducks need if they are going to play faster. Besides, they're not thrilled with the play of Lindholm and Manson this year so unless the Lose for Hughes mode kicks in, I think Montour stays. The MDZ trade was so the Ducks could have a decent #7 d'man and getting rid of Schenn was gravy. Silfverberg is injured, so his trade value is pretty low right now. The elephant in the room is Kesler, if it's his hip again he might be done, like Marian Hossa done. Even if he does try to come back I think the Samueli's will OK buying him out. A team can't pay a guy $6.875 million to be a faceoff specialist, which is all he basically is.
If Murray can pry some first or second round picks, I wouldn't mind seeing some of these guys go. Even if they do squeek into the playoffs it's going to be another one and done. Unless they happen to draw Calgary, they have unbelievable good luck against them. I still wouldn't bet on the Ducks getting past the Flames though.

Nah, if anyone goes from Toronto, it'll be Gardner. Jake would love Anaheim! As long as he tries hard, Ducks fans won't boo him. Hell, a majority of them were PISSED when Cogliano and his 2 goals were traded. Come back to Anaheim, Jake!

If I'm a GM, the Ducks are one of them teams I'm calling everyday right now. Seems like Murray is open to making trades just for the sake of shaking it up, that's when mistakes sometimes get made.

Lots to see ... how many of the kids are going to make the jump next yr is question 1.
Jones & TT are Already here and look to stay-
Comtois I think is going to be here again soon -
Sam & Mahura for sure -
That means plenty of F options for trades are available.
The D side trickier -
In Gibson we trust -

There will be a minor rebuild on the fly. The expansion draft is also a consideration for Murray.

Comtois will not be back this year. If he plays one more game with the Ducks he has to be protected (or exposed) in the draft. Not happening.

Silf will also have to be protected, or left exposed. Murray may want to sign him, but he wasn't successful his first try, and I doubt either side is budging in their demands.

Fowler, Manson, Lindholm, Montour, Larsson, Mahura are on D with the Ducks, and all are top 4 imo. That makes 1 expendable. Since Larsson and Mahura are on ELC, they're not going anywhere. Fowler just signed an 8 year extension. I don't think he's gone. Manson has grit (really only D that does), and Lindholm probably our best D. That leaves Montour as the odd man out. His contract negotiation wasn't the smoothest, and if the return is right, I can see him traded.

Ducks have a lot of youth (Steele, Lundestrom, Comtois, ) ready to make their mark (besides Terry and Jones). With Gibson locked up in goal for the next 8 years, our D pretty solid, and the beforehand mentioned kids, any "rebuild" will be swift and relatively painless imo.

Kesler situation tricky. Perfect scenario he goes on LTIR, but it has to be tough for a player to admit they can't play anymore. He turns 35 on Aug. 31, at which time you have a 35+ contract issue (I believe). Any decision regarding a buyout I think would have to be made before then.

In my mind, while Manson has grit, he hasn't used it very much this year. With all the press he has gotten from the NHL, he may be overvalued. If the right trade comes along, I'd be OK with him leaving. Lindholm and Fowler both have the tools, but need to up their game.

Silfverberg seems hesitant to sign. Hopefully he will get healthy enough before the trade deadline so the Ducks can get something for him.

I haven't been as impressed with Larsson or Welinski in the D zone, but they are still young defensemen so they might just need some more time. Mahura has some offensive upside. Hopefully, 1 of those 3 can develop into a top-4 guy.

If Kesler doesn't get bought out at the end of the year, he might have incriminating pictures of either Henry or Susan Samueli.

Ducks really need to find a potential #1 center prospect for the future. I don't think there is one in the organization right now and it is very apparent that Getzlaf is slowing down.

I think that the Ducks should target one of the centers in Tampa this offseason. I don't think Tampa could match a 10.125 x 7 year contract for Point and I would absolutely sign him for that. They only have 6m of cap space. We would have to buyout both Perry and Kesler, but frankly, I don't think we can hope that they will magically reclaim their games.

Realistically, their careers are over and their contracts represent just shy of 20% of our total cap hit. - I repeat 20%!!! - Their combined payoff would be nearly 4m for 3 years, but I'd rather have the extra 8m for a significant asset (or distributed among a few usable pieces) than be stuck with their broken bodies for several more years.

I believe you’re incorrect on kesler. Prettt sure the rule only applies on contracts signed when the player is already 35 or older

I like where your head is at, but Tampa would absolutely match that offer sheet. A signed player is worth more than an unsigned one and they could fetch more than the OS compensation for Point. The sad reality is that they likely get Point for less than Kucherov’s 9.5. Even if you offersheet Point, they’ll match and dish off a 2nd rounder and a prospect to a team like Carolina or NJD to take on Callahan and then they’re fine for another season until they need to resign Cirelli, Sergachev, and Vasilevskiy at which point they likely trade two of Johnson, Killorn, Palat and they’re fine again. The league salary cap will likely continue to rise through all of this as well
