Chiarelli is a joke. He just showed all their cards by signing Kos, and having not traded Talbot yet. They're gonna get nothing for Talbot now and wtf was he thinking signing a goalie to 3 years at 4.5 that's only played 25 games!!! No one across the NHL can believe how Chia still has a job. Honestly though I'm done blaming him and we should be looking higher up the chain of command.

Nicholson may have had team Canada success (not a difficult task) but keeping Chia as long as he has and allowing him to continue making these terrible moves... Bob should be gone! The Oilers are the laughing stock of the NHL and have been for years. When we won the Connor lottery we had a real chance at getting some real talent in Edmonton (how often would someone choose Edmonton over San Jose... seriously) and now that's all gone. Chiarelli should have been gone after the Hall trade and serious alarm bells should have been going off after the Lucic signing and now no ones coming to Edmonton, Mcdavid or not. Chia was done after Boston and that was a poor choice for GM in the first place and thats on Bob. Now this mess will take at least 2 more years to repair... but maybe we should be looking even higher.

Truth is that problems come from the top. Saying is that sh** rolls down hill and Katz is obviously full of it. He bought this team in 2008 and has been given EVERY opportunity to succeed and has failed miserably. Beyond miserably. There are actually no words for this 10 year Katz train wreck. He obviously has no idea what hes doing and after 10 years of this bs maybe we should be finally talking about a clueless owner. He hired Nicholson that hired Chiarelli and has let this get to a new level of stupid. Just think of our record since '08. After 4 first overall picks, (remember Katz was the one that insisted on Yakupov) the Leon steal at #3 and many other top picks, we are nowhere near being a cup contender. How is that even possible?

So my message to Katz is this... Nice new arena but you are a terrible owner to have let things get this bad. You've ruined the career of many top end hockey players and now it's time to get your head out of your a$$, clean house and have the sack to fire all your idols from the 80's. This is a multi million dollar business and you hired your "buddies" to run it. You have lost  millions because you wanted to look cool but you've had your fun. So fire Nicholson and Chiarelli and get someone in that knows what they're doing to bring this team back to greatness. You will make way more money and in the end your a business man and surrounded by people that want your money not your company. You have the best player on the planet and he deserves better and the fans definitely deserve better. After this 10 year gong show you have to see you're an aweful owner blinded by an 80's dynasty. So grow a pair and start fresh or for the love of god sell the team because its only a matter of time until the fans wise up and realize that the problem is you!

I liken the Oil to Aaron Rodgers and the Packers.
Most NFL teams today succeed with a younger (rookie deal) QB contract. Having a generational talent is really nice, but once he is due for a payday, it really tightens the budget. Holes are filled with scrubs, deficiencies emerge.

I don't see the Pack winning again in AR's career. At least hockey does not have a 53 man roster, so there is more hope for McDavid. I just think the cap and location screw both.

He really should have taken a bit less money. Hard to do, and I don't blame him.

There will be no vultures on Koskinen if he have a bad game, the vultures will be squarely on upper management....as it should be. Chiarelli is a bad GM but honestly, I'm starting to think some of these decisions are coming from a higher power above (Nicholson?) There's no way a GM can be this inept on his own! The Oilers org is clearly a rudderless ship right now. With a gem like McDavid on the cusp of entering his prime, management seems to have zero clue how to build around him.
Katz might be a billionaire owner but I don't think he really know much about the hockey business itself or who to hire to make this team successful. He should've skidded Nicholson and Chiarelli some time ago but for some reason he's hanging onto them.

There is zero point in removing Chiapet. They all admit it is a "Consensus of Committee" between the "Hockey Men." You'll just be removing the face of it and not the group.

Well in a perfect world the whole group would get the axe but for now they could at least dump Chia just for some sort of good news.

I dont think all the moves chiarelli is making are his. I think he and keith gretzky have drafted really well since they got here and we always see the smaller deals have turned out pretty good while the larger deals seem to be made by a diff group and set the team back.
