Hes an incredible player, i can't and wont deny that. The longevity thing is always an issue when it comes to these types of deals, we have seen a ton of these look awful half way through their contracts. I just prefer to build through the draft and not make these types of splashes in free agency.

But if they win a cup in year three of the deal do you really care about years 4-7?

Getting back to going for EK if available...

Edler EK
Hughes Tanev
OJ Woo
(Stecher/Hutton/EG)

Looks like a very dynamic D corp to me.
Allows EG to be traded &/or the other spare parts moved for anything. Entices more quality UFA’s to take notice & possibly sign for a more team friendly deal. Demko will be a key to take the reins over Marky but that’s a solid 1-2 punch. Up front it’s draft BPA to help Bo get a winger. Top 6 can be helped sooner & easier than the D through the draft.

Still it’s my imagination going wild lol

Looks like a D that would get pushed around.

Year 3 is the earliest window imo.
That said EK should still be an elite D for most of his next contract. After that he won’t be trash but still top 4. My outlook is he is an immediate impact & fix for us as a RHD who can score & also a proven PO scorer. Scoring depth on D along with Hughes would change our potential overnight & cost us only money. Special teams in the PO’s can decide a series. 7/12m we can fit into the cap.

No. But i personally dont think hes the answer to the Canucks winning a cup in years 1 through 3 if he did sign.

Idk about that to any big degree.
It would be more mobile & has solid pairings. I’m looking at it as more lethal & can insert toughness as needed.

True but the point is building the D corp & the lack of scoring is priority. Need more skating & skill on the back end which is hard to find to say the least. EK is a key piece we lack with drafting his skill set being a most difficult ask.

I’m liking Byram Turcotte Boldy Lavoie Newhook in our possible pick range. Sure would like more picks in the 1st or at least early 2nd. Scoop some players who fall in the latter. The farm could use C’s.

What range are you looking at here? I see players that are ranked from 5-25 in here.

What happened in here yesterday? Why is race being brought into the conversation?

We can poke fun at our flawed personalities (god knows there is a lot of material there) but let’s not start playing that old tired American pastime of “my race is better than your race”.

- bloatedmosquito

There were no racist comments .As always one poster stirring the crap when it comes to pulling out the race card.

1 million per goal, good.

- Pres.cup

Wasting a 26 overall pick on career AHLer Gaunch...even better.

The thing about acquiring Karlsson is it would be attractive for about three years and then you would be throwing things at the TV for the remaining 4 years.

That's exactly it. And if we didn't make a deep playoff run or win a championship (which is likely) it would be another albatross contract we never needed. I get the need for Norris trophy quality D, but not the way to go about it going after Karlsson IMO.

I really hope Canucks go for Dougie Hamilton. Yes he is a bible thumper but come on this is the Canucks . This team is built on choir boys. Aside from MDZ and Jake there are no party animals.

He is 25 yrs old 6'6 RHD and puts up solid points every year . Two years left at 5.75 per. That is what you should be looking at not 7 years of EK.

Are you in the go after EK camp?

I think Benning will inquire but it will be kicking tires only. I heard SJ or NYR

I’m a little bias. I like Karlsson a lot but I would sign him if it’s 4 years. 7 years is ridiculously long. Most likely he will price himself out of our market. Pipe dream.

I think a lot of us would be okay with a four year deal but that is a fantasy. Like Redmile said why would he?

There are very few reasons to sign with Vancouver. Pettersson will change some of that but that is years away.

Based on past signings, I have no doubt the Canucks would commit 7 years to EK. I'm told the cap isn't a problem, we have lots of it.

I don’t think a 7 year contract would hurt us. By the time it’s up he will be 35. Load it up on the front end. He is entering the prime of his career. Jesus I’m talking myself into it. See bias.
