EK is red hot. Anyone still not wanting to make him an offer if a UFA?

I’ve already accepted the fact that they’ll be picking in the 9-11 range

If EP had more of a 55-60 point type rookie season instead of being over a PPG then I had hopes for picking around 5 or 6

Me.

Its a contract year, the guy is going to demand 7 years (if not SJ) and insane $ and will be 29 when he signs, and 37 when the deal ends. I would prefer to stay the course and not dip into the top tier free agent market. Just my opinion though.

I hearya but passing on a RHD & his offence rarely comes along. Besides other D can be moved along for assets/picks if he signed. It’s a matter of his longevity to play at high level. I think he will be fine. It allows Woo & other D to be more shutdown types.

Hes an incredible player, i can't and wont deny that. The longevity thing is always an issue when it comes to these types of deals, we have seen a ton of these look awful half way through their contracts. I just prefer to build through the draft and not make these types of splashes in free agency.

Elite D are hard to draft let alone a D corp to be built for cup contention. If drafted it also takes a long time to develop & be lucky it’s in time for cup windows. I take a chance on an EK any day. If not a 10yr rebuild is standard stuff.

Not worth the risk for 8 years. I get the attraction to play with EP but it would be great for a season or two and if there was no deep playoff run it would be a waste of our cap space. We've been down this road before with Luongo no thanks.

Not really. Lou was considered 'elite' at the time and was paid accordingly like Karlsson would be now. Just because Lou made way less money than Karlsson would nowadays makes no difference. A Karlsson contract would strap us long term like Lou's did.

We were cup contenders with Lui.
If an EK contract straps us then idk how the Leafs will figure it out. After EP nobodies contract will be huge. The cap escalating will further help us with our huge cap space we already have. Even more cap space is coming & juggling other contracts via trade can be done this offseason. If we cannot fit in EK’s contract then idk who gets the big money in the future.

Getting back to going for EK if available...

Edler EK
Hughes Tanev
OJ Woo
(Stecher/Hutton/EG)

Looks like a very dynamic D corp to me.
Allows EG to be traded &/or the other spare parts moved for anything. Entices more quality UFA’s to take notice & possibly sign for a more team friendly deal. Demko will be a key to take the reins over Marky but that’s a solid 1-2 punch. Up front it’s draft BPA to help Bo get a winger. Top 6 can be helped sooner & easier than the D through the draft.

Still it’s my imagination going wild lol

Granlund back to center and Stecher moved ahead of EG.

TG just doesn't know what to do anymore. Tank or make attempts at winning

Not at all Beagle's numbers his past 4 seasons in WAS plus the cup ring speak for themselves. Only played 22 healthy games here.

Just because he's playing with plugs here in Vancouver and has lower numbers because of that doesn't mean he's a sh!tty player bro...
