Think Strome does some of the same things AA does in terms of going to the net but also making some nice passes.

Saw the stat the other day where they scored 12 times in their first 105 chances and since they switched things up, they've score 11 times in 30 some odd PP's.

- HawkintheD

Yeah, similar to Arty. 12 for 105, holy damn, I like to see the change in that.

One thing I hadn’t taken into account. Senior Bowman watches TB, so he may have some scouting reports for Stan on Slater.

Rutta has to be stoked!

2017 Daley to Pitt=cup
2018 Kempny to Wash=cup
2019 Rutta to TB = ?

CUP!!!!! - I going with it... haha. I know nothingn of Rutta other then he is now our 8D.

On Slater Koekkoek to give you guys some insight.

I have met KK a couple times, great guy I hope he does well. He was well liked in the Lightning locker room. He can skate and transition the puck decently and has some offensive upside for a defender.

Cooper never trusted him in his own end and its with merit, the statistics show KK was not good in the dzone over the past few years. With him on the ice he and his partner averaged 10 more shots and 0.5 goals more against then other pairings.

I think all his shoulder injuries really hindered his career. I believe he can stick on a team over the next few years due to his skating but I don't see him being anything more then a 5-7 Dman and thats only if he continues working on the dzone portion of his game.

Tbf, Schmaltz was a draft pick and not a bad one for a what, 20th, 21st pick? I'd hardly call that a mistake.

The mistake would have been signing him to term and $6M this year, but it was never made.

I didn't mind the trade then and like it more now as Strome appears to be a pretty good player. There was a pretty good article on him in the Herald about him and DeBrincat hanging out together, and how maybe they do this summer as well to stay in Chicago to train.

- HawkintheD

Altho I’m good with the trade too - I’m good with Strome, and I’m not even giving up on Perlini - the “mistake” may be on giving up on a 22 year old Chicken Fat.

Or in a years-long lack of a quality development process within the organization that has (hopefully) been corrected.

Scotty Bowman is always at Lightning games, he probably makes more then half the Lightning games in a season. Very friendly to those that know who he is when at Amalie Arena.. A few weeks ago he was on local radio station here in Tampa and marveled at the Lightning's neutral zone play and transition. Still thinking hockey all the time.

Actually not so sure he’s going to be so happy playing for Tampa’y AHL affiliate, he might be crushed.

Maybe. Hoping it's one of those trades that works out for all involved and too bad Schmaltz is now out for the year.

Not giving up on Perlini either. Won't take much to sign him and it's not like there's presently a boatload of forward depth in the system knocking on the door.

Perlini has not impressed me So far. Doesn’t seem to use his size effectively at all. But like you said, it’s not like he’s got a lot of competition within the Orginization right now.

Hopefully he figures it out because he has the natural tools. Unfortunately you can’t teach toughness or desire, so I’m skeptical.

Huge game tonight ,HAWKS need this one big time for any chance to climb back into the race . If this team continues to improve as much as it has over the last 5 weeks ,in 5 weeks they could be knocking on the door for a playoff spot .. No Keith tonight Illness ?? ,well if true we will get a look at how this team plays without him for all those that want him dealt . Glad Delia is getting the start ,not his best game last one , time to get right back on the horse .. GO HAWKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!

we need some D that actually can defend instead of looking like they are on a table hockey rod while skating backwards waving their sticks from side to side as their opponents skate where ever the hell they want in the Hawks D zone.

CUP, one of the best posts of 2019 - certainly one of best lines of analysis this year!

Hey Stammer - I would be stoked - the bolts have been my pick this year as well as last year. Full disclosure my wife is from Tampa. But Stevie Y put together a heck of a team there. When Tampa was here earlier in the year and they basically blew the Hawks doors off it reminded of what the Hawks once were. I wanted the Hawks to move on Stralman a few years back, but Stevie got him while Bowman played Nick Leddy roulette all summer and then got nothing for him from the Isle...but that's another matter.

I would think Rutta was more of a cap move on Bowman's part - Bowman is notorious for overpaying players and then having to move them. Another draft pick for Stan to use is always welcome and I think its a 5th. KK is an RFA next year...doubt he's here and 865,000 against the cap is gone as well. I think Rutta could be a piece for you guys as a lower pairing guy. I'm sure the change of scenery won't hurt him.

Savvy brother - happy new year my friend...I'm sure Stan's lining up the next Brandon Manning signing for next season - at least he's moved Rutta which pretty much guarantees the Bolts win the hardware.

Have to wonder with all that cap space next season what they'll do - I'm assuming they'll make a run at Panarin which would still leave space for a couple of actual defensemen...?

Hawks should finish out the homestand tonight with another L giving them 1 out of a possible 6 points - embrace the tank.

Gus' game is fully developed - you see the same on ice stupidity every night. At best he runs the PP and rides the pine the rest of the time.
- RickJ

This had been mentioned before on the board. With the glut of defenseman on the team and in the system, maybe he can be converted to a forward. He's definitely a liability as a defenseman, partially offset by his value on the PP. He can add some offensive punch to the 3rd or 4th line.

Devil's advocate re: trading Gus...

Could a team with a struggling PP use someone like Gus at the TDL and would they part with a good pick or prospect? Hawks need to start bringing some of their depth up to test them out and potentially audition for the "big show" or other clubs.

Thoughts?

New Rinkcast wkth yours truly.

I had some wifi issues at the start there but sorted it out quickly.

Some fun topics covered from the Koekkoek, Gustafsson, is Stan the right guy for this retool?

Check it out.

Interesting podcast. Really enjoyed some of the topics that were talked about.

Tyler I have a question. With all the talk about getting Panarin back and the left wing not being a position of need. Do you think maybe the hawks would explore trading Saad for a top four defenseman and then signing Panarin? This would allow Dcat to slot higher in the lineup and also fill a position of need which is defense.

I would do it if he was on an expiring contract but not with another year remaining. If this club is still struggling at this time next year, then by all means, move him. He will not re-sign with us anyways unless we overpay. With an expiring cheap deal and producing points at his current level, Stan should be able to get a lot of assets in return at the next TDL.

Schmaltz, Ruutta, Manning, Martinson, ........hopefully Gus and Forsling are next, I'll get shredded for this but we need some D that actually can defend instead of looking like they are on a table hockey rod while skating backwards waving their sticks from side to side as their opponents skate where ever the hell they want in the Hawks D zone.
Schmaltz ..... no balls to play in this league, now that he suffered this injury, he'll avoid ANY contact at all costs. Tocchett otta love that !
Martinson.... Beer league player, should be skating in late nite games and watching pro games in a bar like the rest of us who stunk at the sport.
Glad to see Bowman stepping up and trying to correct his mistakes instead of making bull crap excuses for them.
Hope this kid gets a chance, 6"2 200 , and a top 10 pick, hopefully he can find it here.
I don't care about Gus and Forslings O capabilities, they are both terrible D man and soft as hell in their own zone.

- wonthecup10

Agree as for martinsin I would keep him as a 13th forward put him in against the more physical teams. Hawks need a Wilson Simmonds type player martinsin is not that but IMO that is what is needed especially in the playoffs

I'll trade Magic Gus in a blow away deal. I think teams might look at Krugs, a good pp come playoffs time is nice, put great pk's win over the pp, imo. Bottom depth and pkers should be sought out more than pp specialists.

I listened to the podcast too, and have comments, but I'll keep those to myself.

I like Panarin a lot, and wouldn't mind him back on a deal that's good for the hawks, but I just don't see that happening. Going off of what I heard, Arty (lw for now) "who isn't meant to be with the hawks for much longer" could open up a spot for him. Adb could be with Toews and Panarin back with Kane. This is a slim chance of slim chances of happening.

For trading Saad, I'm not sure he'll get you a top d man, but trading him opens up another spot for Panarin. "As a third line 6 mil player is too much" and I agree. He's good on the pk, needs to drive the net every game, 200 ft game, and a down year but not like last year's enigma. There's some good with some bad in a streaky player, so I'm not sure he gets a top 4 d man.
