The only problem is that your moving young kids around like chess pieces on a board, their not professionals. They need to change schools and find new friends and live with other people.

A great way to build a young persons resilliency. They will be fine.

Don’t apologize JT. He did not mean “no one cares”. He meant he did not support the idea of these kids being traded mid-season, just as he said. Which is horse-pucky. Fringe players don’t get traded at the CHL trade deadline. They don’t. Those traded are either the best players, or younger players who are projected to be the best players. Additionally, those traded are going to a better situation. Period. Agreed, the fringe players will not have careers in hockey, but the players traded at deadline have a chance, and should do anything to chase the Dream. The good players go to a Team expected to make a deep run (= exposure and opportunity), the younger ones get to go to a situation where they will get big minutes/opportunity. Maybe they get drafted, maybe they don’t, but if these players don’t get drafted, they get 4 years Canadian University paid, where they will play 4 more years of high quality hockey and get a degree, so don’t play the woah is them card. That is just projecting your “everyone gets a participation ribbon” mentality onto this situation. Any quality CHL’er is thrilled to get a better opportunity.

I agree that junior players should not be traded except during the offseason. Very few players actually make it to the NHL. As a parent I find it ridiculous to think someone can force a kid to move during a school year.

I read an article this morning, 25% of the players from the QHJML were traded at the deadline. I can understand the trade deadline craze in the NHL. Guys are professionals, well paid, it is part of the deal. But we are talking about minors who aren't even paid minimum wage... There's no salary cap, junior teams move an absurd amount of players/picks to try and go for it in a specific year.

To this, I say - They have a choice, report to the new team or go home and play houseleague or beer league. They’ve already left home. Chances of a kid getting drafted by his hometown CHL Team is really, really slim. So, every single CHL kid is already billeting with a family. Now they are billeting in a different city, with a different family, and pursuing his dream. Period.

Save my outrage? I am not "outraged". But I think the CHL talks out of both sides of their mouths.
They claim it's not a business to get around labour laws. $85 a week plus room and board. Sign on the dotted line...Don't like it, then you are not in the club. These kids are forced to sign under duress. It is not legally binding.

So, it's "not a business" but they cut kids mid season and trade kids mid season. So, what is it then? A business? Clearly you are not a parent because you'd have another opinion as most of these kids never collect one $ playing pro

Let's not get into the "education packages" the players get. They have an expiration date

Either you had a kid play OHL, or you don’t know what you are talking about. If you had a kid that played, he played in the O at no cost to you, where you were paying $8k to $15k per season for competitive minor hockey, prior to getting to the O. Which is better - getting $85/week, or paying a ton of your $$ for your kid to play ?? Yes it’s a business, but paying each kid minimum wage would cut the CHL from 61 teams to 20, total. The math does not work. Do some research, understand the math, then come in with an intelligent opinion. CHL players getting paid minimum wage is seriously the dumbest argument ever tabled. Ever.
