Trade deadline rumor write up on Ferland at Pensburg.

From watching him play here in Calgary he's good at his current hit (1.75). He loves to bang and can create space for more skilled players and has decent hands and speed.

From hockey writers, these are their midseason grades on D. Maatta being below Riikola and tied with Oleksiak might be the only argument. solid on JJ.

same dude graded the fwds too

https://thehockeywriters....idseason-grades-forwards/

even given the slow start, C seems a bit low for Rust. Simon has played well. dumb how cullen is C- and pearson is just a notch above at C

Rust has 1 assist in his last 5 I think. His voodoo wore off

he's not potting them in, but if i recall, he a had solid game against the rags with one off the post and generated a few scoring chances. he's certainly not detrimental even when he's not on the scoresheet

I don't think he ever hurts a line. He's a hard worker. Just saying that's more likely the reason for the C rating. He's too streaky.

I do think the leash is gonna get shorter if he can't pot some soon though. Simon and Geno are getting some chemistry going but Horny seems a bit off on that line. If Rust doesn't score soon they might be swapped.

I dunno, each guy on that line has 4 points in the last 9 at 5v5.

Losing to lesser teams at home will come back to bite the Pens. It’s like they can only get up for the top teams. Or, just cruising until playoffs. Never sure with this group. MM needs to play.

Pettersson is getting a lot of credit since being acquired and I'm worried we're gonna get a repeat of the Oleksiak situation. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to knock Pettersson. He's been solid and preforming well given that he's drawn the Johnson assignment, but nothing about his game makes me think he's top 4 material. We should be really cautious about how we decide to pay him this offseason. I can totally see The Old Man throwing over two mil for yet another bottom pairing defenseman like he did with JO.

When Schultz is back barring any trades... Id like to see Pettersson paired with Schultz. For being 22 hes really impressed me. Not only learning a new system but laos being paired with Johnson and still looking this good. Small sample size but he reminds me A LOT of how dumolin plays. In my opinion anyways.

Hahaha 2 different takes from us at the same time. I do agree with this also though. I dont think hes a stud top 4 Dman right now but I think with Schultz it could be a similar "style" pairing as dumo and letang.

i've always stated the pens have a glut of #6 guys which makes the JJ/JO cap hits look ridiculous given their level of play. for all intents and purposes, i haven't been as bullish as most everyone else here on MP. I see pettersson as a solid bottom pairing dude and thats it. he's got his age going for him, but your right, paying his JO money by expecting a significant progression and this team would have 7 dudes locked up through next year
