You only get to make first impressions once. So I agree that he is a class act nowadays.

Given the pens are win-now its not surprising, but its interesting to note that from '14-'18 (Jimmy's tenure), Simon is the only penguin to have established himself as an NHL player with the team (him, Kapanen and Sprong are the only others to play NHL games).

Of course, its too early from some of those guys picked this past June, but ultimately, the team needs drafts like '12 and '13 to produce cheap talent from within during the years left of the Sid era.

So while jimmy might not be directly responsible for drafting, it might be the one area he is not performing the greatest in. His trade record is on the whole, pretty solid. His resignings are alright too.

Just one more reason why Sid is the best. Big contest against the Winnipeg Jets at home. Should be an exciting playoff like game.

Actually, I think he's doing pretty decent so far. When they're drafting low and trading so many picks, it's hard to get a constant stream of cheap talent coming up in the system. It's hard to expect more than 1 or 2 out of a draft class under those limitations. Too early to tell with '17......although it looks a little bleak. '18 looks pretty good however. I think this Halander kid could be here in a couple of years.

Gustavsson is probably a future NHL goalie, but he might be the only one out of the 16 class. He of course became Brassard which isn't working.

In 15 he hit on 2 of 4. 50%.....I'll take it.

In 14 he turned Kapinen into Kessel and two cups. Can't complain about that.

Plus... ZAR looks to be a decent "free" pickup and Bellerive might have a future. Riikola might be OK too.

Overall I think he's doing as well as can be expected while being in "go for it" mode.

I'm not saying he's done very badly and 50% is a pretty good hit rate per year. I also get the go-for-it now and throw the kitchen sink approach, but ZAR is a 4L and Riikola is a 3D (at the moment). Bellerive - the jury's out. I understand rutherford moving bennett, but after the DP and Sprong trades anyone the organization drafted with top-six potential (outside goaltending) has pretty much been gone out the door once their value has been completely shot to sh!t.

The Shero Regime mortgaged the future in so many useless rental trades but there was some good outta some of the draftees who came along later on.

Hallander looks good although quiet boxscore-wise at WJC. Lauzon might have been a reach.

Lundquist sucks. Most overrated player in the game. His contract will kill the Rags chance of a rebuild.

Lundquist is better than any goalie in Penguins' history (the only area they've ever really lacked at).

But if only he had Top PP time with 87 his stats would be better!

Pens MGMT are actually really good at pawning off prospects.

Shero had a decent window in '11, 12, 13. But the only true top 6 player he drafted was Guentzal. Before Guentzal his best forward was Staal in 06. Granted, he drafted some other regulars..... Rust, Murray, Maatta. Overall, I think Shero deserves a C/C- at best for his drafting with the Penguins. Part of the reason he got fired is because he was incapable of doing the easy part....(easy part being filling in talent around two generational centers).

He's not perfect, but personally I think JR has been the better GM all things considered.

At what? Certainly not goaltending.

MAF was one of the most athletic goalies ever, but his fundamentals and positioning were average at best. He was able to make up for a lot of this with said athleticism. He was also good enough to be a key part of 2 Stanley Cup runs.

But he was not better than Lundquist.
