Justin Lowe: The Brandon Manning Era is Over
If Stan was telling the truth when he alluded to "guys like" Brandon Manning being brought in to appease Joel Quenneville as they were "Q's guys" then it looks like his coaches have quite the influence on his decisions.

I really appreciate that Jeremy Colliton is very open and honest with his players. He's stated that from the beginning that he really wants his players to know where they stand on his teams.

What was the rumored return from Nashville?

No, he could have signed with Nashville. Not that Nashville offered more than the Oilers via trade.

Not a blockbuster by any means but a solid trade for Stan.

Garrison will add some veteran leadership in Rockford, that doesn’t hurt.

Whether you ‘love the Drake’ or ‘hate the Drake’ the Hawks should be able to get more value out of Caggiula then they got out of Manning for a lesser cap hit. If it doesn’t work out the exit options are cheaper with Caggiula as well - burying in Rockford, buy out, or carry as an extra.

This deal reminds me of the Panik/Duclair deal - it’s all about Stan fixing his mistake and getting rid of a bad signing.

Garrison will be on waivers by 8:00 a.m. and it would help the Hawks if he refused to report or just retired immediately.

Caligula will probably get a chance to play a bit, possibly as a replacement for Sikura if they decide he needs more work in Rockford.

I see more trades of surplus players coming - Rutta, Kampf, AA, Forsberg.

Interesting factoid... Caggiula and Delia share the same birthday - June 20, 1994.

Saves about $750K off the cap next season and helps clear the cluttered blue line. Other than that - MEH!

Saying Kunutiz Manning and Ward were not Q guy's is BS ,it was as evident as the moustache on Q face they were his guy's .Q had sabotaged almost every player move Stan made in the last 3years ,so Stan gave him the players he wanted and it blew up in Q face and led to his long overdue firing . Nice move by Stan .

Stan and the front office now have their coach and he I would believe is on side with the moves being made . Coaches may not have much say in who is acquired (I don't truly believe this ) but they sure have say who plays and were and when . Both the coach and the FO need to b on the same page ,and that was not happening here for sometime .

So where would you put Caggiula in Hawks lineup? Does this mean that Sikura is going back to Rockford? I need answers!

I’m not happy with Stan/McD in our front office - but I do take solace in knowing that at least they’re not Chiarelli-level bad.

This was my first thought. Why on earth would Chiarelli put his superstar in this position? McDavid shouldn't have to deal with the guy who took him out.

EDIT: Apparently Chiarelli talked to McDavid before making the trade, and Connor gave his blessing. Interesting.

I don´t think that is an issue at all. Maybe in the message boards but not in a real life.

"Connor actually reached out... He said he's happy to have me & thinks I can help the team. Obviously, with our history & when a guy of that calibre reaches out to you, it's pretty special." – Brandon Manning

I would not be surprised if Caggiula slots right in replacing Sikura.

Then send Sikura back to play regularly in Rockford.

You don’t want a possible future top-6/top-9 player eating hot dogs with Kunitz in the press box.

He needs to play.

Dont hate the deal. Somehow Stan unloaded excess salary and not a very good player for a guy who can probably at least skate on the third or 4th line.

Lol. Ive been saying Chiarelli is bad at his job and would take some of the hawks stupid money.

Any way you slice it this trade was a win. Manning wasn't playing and rightfully shouldn't have been. Yes Caggiula is another bottom 6 player on a team with a lot of them, but still searching for the right mix.

The Hawks should still be in a position to trade some players at the TDL and might be able to load up on some middle/lower round picks, if they decided to trade Freddie and could find takers for Kunitz, Rutta, some others.

I'm not buying into the belief that Manning and Kunitz were only acquired "because of Q".
First, Kunitz is still playing pretty regularly for JC. This organization has plenty of other choices for bottom 6 guys. Second, it wasn't coach Q who signed Manning to that ridiculous contract.

I agree he needs to play. Must drink more coffee before posting so I can complete my thoughts! I really like what Stan did here; another low risk, high reward move where he gave up virtually nothing for something possibly very good.
