I think Pettersson and Schultz might make a good pair.

Why can't a reporter/journalist just straight up ask HCMS why he opts to leave JJ in the line up. Every. Single. Game.

Im dying to know the answer.

- MattStrat

In Pittsburgh, most beat writers are afraid of the Head Coaches. It's not like New York....they don't want to be shut out or get on the bad side of a coach.

Beyond that, you already know the answer. Grizzled/proud vet. The GM brought this guy here as his big off-season prize. Then he get's into a pissing match with another organization over it. It's the same old situation where players like this get a pass because of their years of "experience".

Hey look, the Caps played the Ducks a few weeks back, had a 5-1 lead and lost.

I'd bet it has something to do with the way Rob Rossi is treated by the team. You need the team to at least tolerate you if you want good quotes from guys. If you ask enough clown questions, you're gonna start getting brushed off, and eventually straight up shut down like Rossi routinely gets. Asking why a player isn't getting scratched isn't the type of stupidity that Rossi usually brings up, but I'm sure it would be considered an unacceptable level of insensitive by Mike Sullivan. No chance he answers it and it may hurt the reporter who asks it's relationship with the team.

Time for the Pens to hang back and become a counter offence?

From most thoughts on this board we can’t fix the team without multiple roster moves we can’t afford to make.

I hated when it happened to us but the way the Caps played us last year would be an effective style. Stop forcing plays. Score on turnovers and power plays.

Ive never been a fan of trap hockey but if the team can make another pay for its mistakes it’s not as boring.

- Thorny87

At least until Schultz comes back. All teams employ some form of the trap. It really has become the standard for defensive positioning. The differences being how much fore-pressure teams use.

I really hope they are playing JJ so his value isnt perceived as that bad and they dont have to pay too much to get rid of him.

That has to be the only explanation of why he's playing. Because if they scratch him they are saying 'yeah you are awful and we don't need you' and we have to pay way more to trade him.

He just sucks all the hockey from whoever plays with him. Its painful.

Yeah I'm pretty upset about it. Pretty low quality hire for a site that usually churns out quality.

EK tying the Pens to Ferland, Montour and to a lesser extent, Nyquist.

I'd love both Ferland and Montour in a Pens uniform.

Salary Cap question:

While looking up Ferland's contract, I noticed they "buried" Darling's salary it the minors.

How do you bury a player's salary in the minors? Does that mean it no longer counts against the cap?

TIOPS is reporting that teams are concerned with Brassard's health. It's believed the groin tear he suffered last season didn't heal properly as it was suggest surgery was the best route of action, not rest.

Are we throwing MM in tonight? Someone has to be in Ovi's face all night. The guy is scoring goals like there's no one else on the ice.

That 3 mil salary cap should still be very attractive. Concerning though if they are indeed shopping him. It'll be difficult to get a good value/cap hit as is.

Part of the cap no longer counts.
This year relief is 1.025m
So when buried darling counts as 3.125m and not 4.15m

Cullen would get no relief because he is a 35+ contract.

"He gives us the best chance to win"

OR

"Each game we evaluate our roster and dress the players we feel give us the best opportunity to win the game"

That's about all you'll get from HCMS

Gotcha, thanks. I was thinking about JJ, but I guess that wouldn't give enough relief.

TIOPS didn't say they were actively shopping him. They stated they are "taking feelers." Semantics, I know, but there is a distinction.

Off to a great HBSL start this week. I'm up 204 to 126.5.

It's crazy though, as a prime example of the luck-factor, an opponent I had a few weeks back who hasn't changed his lineup since week 1 has 221. His lineup is so bizarre to begin with.

How's everyone else faring? Rolo, I'm waiting to hear from you.

Apparently Duper is record saying that there is a problem between Geno, Phil and Sully. I haven't seen the quote.
