I actually think advanced stats do more harm than good to learn about the intracacies of the game, because it is impossible to tally them...like 87's edgework to hold the puck, or the way 08 rips shots throw defenders feet, the millisec. he moves right and the goalie starts to open up. but they are definitely best used to confirm or deny bias, which is why they are so problematic because they are created from biases, and all of them are individuallized to one small static aspect of a fluid game.

Term isn't great but that's why we could get him for Brassard. I guess its a matter of whether you think he's rapidly declining or is playing on a crap team like Pearson was.

I mean, prior to this season there really hasn't been any decline in terms of production. He's 33 though and having four more years on his contract is rough because that decline could really hit at any moment.

I don't know a single person who thinks they are the be-all and end-all.

If anything, they confirm what I see. If I think Player A is bad at positioning without the puck, his shot numbers are going to show it.

Advanced stats can't tell you how tight Sid ties his laces and how that affects his skating. Duh

Of course. His inside sources are Olli Mah-tah and Brooks Or-Peck.

No defensive mindset. It’s all about the offense yet we don’t have one player in the top 20 in scoring. Looooong season.

It's tough to generate more offense when you don't have enough dmen capable of a decent transition game.

Time for the Pens to hang back and become a counter offence?

From most thoughts on this board we can’t fix the team without multiple roster moves we can’t afford to make.

I hated when it happened to us but the way the Caps played us last year would be an effective style. Stop forcing plays. Score on turnovers and power plays.

Ive never been a fan of trap hockey but if the team can make another pay for its mistakes it’s not as boring.

It's funny... They were talking about the way Pierre says Maatta's name last year and somebody followed through and asked him. Apparently that's the correct way to say it.

I honestly don’t know. That might be the best options at least for the remainder of this year.

I've been thinking about this for a couple of months. We obviously don't have the horses to play the style Sullivan is demanding.

Watching some of this Anaheim/Rangers game... Sullivan is gonna look like such a dope that he couldn't find a spot for Sprong. This kid can shoot a puck.

To my eyes the last 3 games there's been 4 bad periods plus one really horrible one.. They still went 2-1... The sore thumbs to me in this are the battle/effort level and player wise JJ, JO and Maatta. I don't understand for the life of me why Maatta and Rikk arnt a thing and JJ is in the fn lineup. They looked smooth and cohesive in their samples to me. Rikk has shown more in his last 3 or 4 outings than JJ has all year to me. I dont know... I don't know...

I'm a Riikola fan. I think his style is reminiscent of the 15/16 style of play. I'd be curious to see him and Pettersson together.

Why can't a reporter/journalist just straight up ask HCMS why he opts to leave JJ in the line up. Every. Single. Game.

Im dying to know the answer.
