Hains: A Missed Match-up

Carey Price had the opportunity to get his 300th career win tonight but his teammates seemed to think that he had to win it by himself...The goalie was the only Hab that showed up tonight.

- Karine Hains

I think that all the years of mediocrity by the canadiens has produced a fan base that is less emotionally invested in the team and the games than ever before. It used to be that most fans would religiously watch every canadiens game. we would live and die with each win or loss. dissect every play and player who helped or hurt the team game in, game out. nowadays, speaking for myself, if there is anything better to do or watch on game night, I find myself happily choosing it over watching the canadiens game. I believe that there are a lot of fans who feel the same way. it is reflected in the many empty seats every game night at the bell centre, the waiting list for canadiens season tickets dwindling....etc. again, speaking for myself, the residual effect of this lack of emotional investment in the team spills over to other mediums like sports talk radio. I used to listen to sports talk radio regularly. melnik specifically but at various times during the day I would tune in. there was never a day that I didn't get my fix of sports talk radio. now, I tune in very infrequently and am only mildly interested in what the "hosts" are rambling on about. granted, the quality of English sports talk radio has diminished greatly over the last few years but that's a topic for some other time. and last, I used to be a regular at places like hb. in fact, it was the first site I would check out every day. the blogging was entertaining, there was always some good controversy of opinion between posters, even some downright disdain from time to time. but again, the residual effect of year after year of canadiens mediocrity has spilled over to habs "content" at places like hb . the numbers of comments on habs threads reflects that. in my opinion, the habs mediocrity is generating a new breed of canadiens fans. the emotionally detached. some might simply call it apathy. happy holidays.

I agree with you but Habs haven't been real contenders for so long...can't spend all of our lives angry about that. This year is another transition year. Hopefully they can turn it around in the next few years and people will start to care once again. The Nordiques coming back would also be very good for Habs fans.

Sadly rob, the only thing people are passionate about these days is getting songs that could make some people sad off the radio, demanding a third public washroom, and protesting oil pipelines..

If by "corny", you mean "hilarious and intellectually stimulating", then yes I agree.

Everything is luck or bad luck when the stats don't back up the reality for him.

If he used stats as an indicator, rather than an absolute, then perhaps he might have some credibility.

- Mashadar

he's not looking for credibility. he just desperate to come off as "controversial" because he thinks it makes him an original thinker. deep down he knows he's at best a third-rate troll.

I recently remembered that the song appears in the movie "Elf"

Damn...Patriarchy is even in children movies now.
