I’d wait it out then to see if it happens this off-season.

Woah Jesse Marshal just quote tweeted our line rushes and it looks like Johnson is headed to the box. Was on a fourth pairing with Chad.

Hearing that possibly gave me a three quarter chub... which is like, a 3/8 chub for you, 2nd account.

Trolling facebook hockey 'fans' is even better. Dear God people think if you block shots and can hit you're a godsend to this team... freaking Johnson defenders.

Edit: might have found the dumbest hockey line of the month... yes, a Johnson defender.

"Goalies block shots all the time, so blocking shots win games just like Johnson does for us"

Kill me now.

I like players who can do those things, but you have to bring quite a bit more, too.

Take Radko Gudas. When he's not chopping some dude's head execution-style or feeding the Penguin point men, he's actually a decent skater, makes a decent pass, and has an average shot. JMFJ is...well, he hits.

Someone compared Johnson to Ian Cole during his time here.

That's really really insulting to Cole.

Cole had a bigger positive impact on the team as a healthy scratch than Johnson does on the ice.

I miss that guy...

Me too. I don't know what he did to piss off Sullivan so bad, but I thought he fit this team quite well.

According to Yohe he talked to the media too much which is all time dumb reason to doghouse a guy. Not that he has a good contract either but if Rutherford was so deadset on spending top dollar on a bottom pairing defenseman, Cole would be pretty useful right around now.

3 years/$4.25M on Cole is a far better contract that 5 years/$3.25M on JJ.

Ya know, I could have gotten passed them attempting 3 years on JJ, but why in the (frank) did they have to go five? I just don't get it.

I could be wrong, but I believe they have an option after this season. From what I’ve read there could be a potential lockout before next season starts.
- Rinosaur

They can opt out after this year. However, next season will still be played. The opt out expiration date for a new CBA would occur before the start of the following season. 2019-2020 will be played. After that ?????

I think Rutherford negotiated against himself, but years 4 and 5 don't matter. Obviously he's not good, but those last two years simply won't matter all that much since there's hardly any young players coming through the pipeline. Same thing about the Hornqvist contract.....although he's still good.

Also... I think Rutherford said something to the effect that they could have had him for less years at a higher number which would have given them less flexibility.

Yes....I remember reading that. They opt out and still play the season. Gonna be interesting. When is Seattle supposed to join the league? 20-21? NHLPA will have some leverage.

Yeah basically the moment Rutherford decided he was going to sign Johnson he was going to be an unmoveable anchor for the remainder of the Crosby Malkin Era window any way you sliced it, so I gladly would have given him any amount of years if it dropped his cap hit. I would have given him ten years if it meant dropping his cap hit to two million.

The old man shot his mouth off about JJ’s situation in CBJ. He can’t take him out of the lineup without looking like an idiot.
