Justin Lowe: Many Thoughts – Crawford, Quenneville, Keith
Oh boy, do I have so many thoughts. What a weekend that was "highlighted" by a 4-3 OT loss to Winnipeg on Friday and a 7-3 thud last night vs. the Sharks.

The Hawks had some nice effort and push back against the Jets but fell short in the extra frame. Just when you thought the Hawks were turning the corner under Colliton, they fall back down to this train wreck on ice that we've become accustomed to watching for the majority of the season.

Its all bad news

Crawford I expect will retire this off season-
Seabrook- the way he is playing is of no use to any team.

Keith- Maybe a 2nd Rd pick.
Anisimov - Maybe the same.
The rest including Kruger- Kunitz play out there deals here.

Hoping for the Draft Lottery & new management.

Nice write up Justin

Sanheim + would be a hard no go for a 35 year old with 4 years left on his deal. Hes still a good player and intangibles are valuable but hes trending to a 2nd pairing guy rather than the Norris level defenseman he once was.

Black Hawk fans. Just inquiring, what do you guys think of Patrick Kane's play this year? Is he slowing down? Does he need a change of scenery?

It's embarrassing to suggest Keith could be had for a 2nd round pick, or some crap like that.

Stan gave up two 2nd round picks for Kimo Timmonen. Idiotic trade on every level, but it was a TDL deal for a team pushing for a Cup run who needed a veteran D presence, yes an overpay but not completely removed from sanity. Lets see what he gets for a Norris winner, a proven, dependable, durable veteran player, who can still skate his ass off, who has WAY more in the tank than Timo had.

Keith is well worth 2-3 high leverage pieces. Since he'd likely be going to a team bent on making the playoffs, that would be a mid to low first round pick and two prospects, with 1 being billed as a top level prospect. The other maybe more a lottery ticket.

Anything less offered Bowman can tell those teams to (frank) off.

He's not slowing down at all. He's certainly frustrated and seems to never have a set line and has played with boat anchor centers most of his career.

If Kane found his way onto a young team close to competing, he'd be rejuvenated even further. Thing is, us Hawks fans have little interest in trading Kane, because we believe he can be part of the next wave, he may be 32 or 33 years old when the Hawks are ready to compete again, but he can be part of it and I think he will STILL be a masterful player as an older guy, his talent is hands, vision, instincts. You don't lose that. Kaner doesn't play a heavy game that will take its toll on his body, he has tons of good years remaining.

Do I want him traded? Hell no, but the Hawks would have to at least listen on him. But it would take a hell of a haul and I don't think buffalo could do it, not that the Sabres don't have the pieces, because they do, but some of those pieces are the foundation of what they are now building. I know it's a "stock idea" that Kaner will end up in Buffalo having grown up a passionate Sabres fan, but I just don't see the fit.

There is no chance the Hawks are a contender while Kane is still playing well, let alone in 2 or 3 years. There are just too many holes in the Hawk lineup to plug before the Hawks are relevant again. The reason Kane will be kept on as a Blackhawk have more to do with selling tickets and him waiving his NMC then keeping him to lead the next contending Blackhawk team.

The best scenario is for more than one team to be interested in Kane at the TDL and ideally both of the teams are contenders with issues on defense, like Toronto.

The 2-year window I agree is probably far too optimistic, but Kane will still be playing in 10 years I believe. I have to think the Hawks will compete at some time before 2028.

I feel terrible for Corey. Now he will have to consider if it is worth playing again and risk his long term mental health.

The defense as a whole (forwards and defenders) looked awful. It looks like the whole team does not care. They are all floating mentally and physically. I am sure the injury to Crow and the rumor about Q were big distractions. If you replayed the game and clicked the pause button at various times when the Hawks were in their defensive zone you would see so many people out of position.

Quotes not working but if Gretzky can be traded then anybody can be traded. So there is that.

Problem with moving him to Buffalo is the asking price would be foundational pieces they already have.

That being said, Nylander plus a first would be a start.

Their is no way a team like Winnipeg, Toronto, or Tampa could afford patrick Kane. The assets and players they would have to give up would deplete them just to fit Kane under the cap this year and for the foreseeable future.

The hawks are in a horrible situation now with Crawford going down. I do believe the hawks where quietly shopping Crawford and this incident just threw a blizzard on any near or potentially future trades involving Crawford.

You were right when you said it last night, JL, it's bad. Crow, Keith, Seabs, the state of the hawks...

I just want Crow to be okay. I know there are a lot of dangers in the game, but players with concussion history, in the future, it's dark and scary.

Berg or Delia, it doesn't really matter that much to me.

I wonder what pieces were rumored to be the return in your mentioning of Philly. Now with Seabs in the picture, I can see a decreased value.

Is it a done deal that Q will end up in Philly?

Anyways, great piece as usual and thanks for sharing the rumors.

I would expect a Keith trade to Philly after the holiday freeze is over. He looks checked out to me. CC is done and he will be on LTIR. After this 7-3 a$$ whoopin, its time to start the sell off. Move what you can and lets start over.

Right now to help rebuild the Hawks Kane's value is in what his return is rather than what he can do in a Blackhawk uniform. If there is a trade for Kane that is good for the Hawks' future then the Hawks should make it. UNLESS Management deem his presence in the lineup sells ticket and that ticket sales are more important then a rebuild.

I agree it's time for Stan to go to the core including Kane and ask them to waive there NMC. The whole notion of keeping Kane and toews for marketing at this point is a awful way to run your business.

Crawford won't get moved due to anot&er concussion, which means he either plays out his contract or is another year away if he should return with revisiting a move then.

Sell off as many pieces as possible get the best prospects and highest picks you can . Fire Stan at the end of the season and bring in a GM who has experience in hockey and a proven track record.

Agree. There is no way Stan trades Keith for a 2nd alone. While, I've been more of a proponent of Bowman than many here, if that's all he gets for Keith, I'd say sayonara Stan.

While the Hawks suck, he does have some pieces like Keith, AA and Kruger, that could be interesting to some teams pushing for the playoffs or a Cup. He's also in a position to make hay and one he's rarely been in...the driver's seat.

A lot of people obviously tying him to flyers with Q potentially coming. As a flyers fan if we gave up more than a 1st and a good prospect for him I'd be upset. But to suggest he could be had for a 2nd rounder.. well we would be dancing in philly. But hes also not getting you ghost sanheim provy like some suggest. Those guys have the talent and potential to be top pairing guys and they have 15 years left in them vs Keith declining career and us not being anywhere near cup contention. Better off calling Toronto to see if you could get liljegren.

Ughhhh the if Gretzky can be traded argument. Drives me bananas. The oilers got 3 firsts, a prospect and a roster player and a briefcase full of money. Plus the oilers sent two other players with.

Lotta good that did the Oilers. One Cup since Messier was a beast and two conf finals with what was left of that team and they didn't get to a final until Pronger dragged them there a generation later.

I'd flip Keith as he looks ok physically but seems to have no interest in playing anyway but the way he wants to play.

Kane is going to be a PPG player the next 5 or 6 years like Martin St Louis and puts butts in the seats. If they think they can make another serious go in 3 or 4 years then that is the guy you probably keep around.

San Jose is just a much better team. Joe Thornton is a bad dude.

Anyway, I hope Crow calls it a day for his sake. Collect that last year and find a new hobby. If Forsberg can show well i think you get him up and look to flip in February then give Delia the reins.

On a high note it is becoming clearer they have a player in Strome.

Getting a high percentage shot at a lottery pick is really the best case scenario for this team now.
