The Avs will bust through this little blip of losses and get back on track. They are still a very young team, but they are on the rise and with more experience these guys will see more game to game consistency.

Interesting that Eklund thinks Duncan Keith is available from Chicago. He’d be a nice addition to the Avs with some veteran, cup-winning experience to add to the line-up, replacing Nemeth and Barberio.

Johnson/Girard
Barrie/Keith
Cole/Zadorov
Nemeth/Barberio (backups)

Not sure what it would take to get done, but probably at least a first rounder, roster player, and a quality prospect or two.

It would be nice to have him come playoff time, 5 years left at 35 years old is not ideal though. I hope that Makar and Timmins could solidify the D over the next couple years and have a deep playoff-run window open.

It might even make sense to start thinking about trading one of our next expiring defensive contracts. Nemeth and Zadorov both expire this year, both guys are good, I like big Z over Nemeth. Barrie and Girard are very similar players, and both need new contracts in 2 years. It's starting to feel like Barrie (27) might be the odd man out (I hope not tho). What is he worth on a market where puck moving, offensive, right handed D men are not easy to come by? What is Keith worth to a team that is going to have to rebuild soon?
