my Jet expectations are warped - we are:
*nearly at the top of the western conference
*having fantastic special team play
*getting good production from star players
*the youngest team in the league
*seeing mostly starting goalies
*playing against teams that are geared up to play the Jets
*enjoying some good prospects still in the pipeline
*paying the bills with salary cap team in place
*worrying about losing great players rather than trying to find them
*have a core of players with long term commitment to the Jets
*playing 50mins of Jet hockey per night (yet winning games)

Somehow I am expecting more from the team. To quote Bryan Adams - I'm finding it hard to believe we're in heaven. I am hopeful that this is all leading development to top playoff form in April where we will continue with PP/PK success, getting the saves, playing 60 minutes, beating good teams, continue to worry about having too many great players, gutting out tough series and fueling the whiteout again.

There’s an argument to be made. I’d say the top 3 are tied, for a few reasons:
Buff’s numbers are impacted by constant Chiarot’s and Morrow’s
Trouba’s numbers are impacted by a lack of PP time
Morrissey’s numbers are impacted by his steady improvement since game 1, meaning he’s likely better now than his numbers suggest.

All 3 are miles ahead of Myers, who himself is miles ahead of the other 3.

Chevy’s upcoming dilemma- how do you re-sign Laine and pay him more than Scheifele?
I’m thinking that 55 is twice the player that Laine will probably ever be....and that’s not a knock on Laine....55 is THAT GOOD!

Kulikov-Myers represents an interesting problem for me. Separately, they’re wildly unreliable. Together? Pretty damn good. Makes no sense.

Glad to see Jets winning when they should. Good teams do that.

The Jets "white sweaters" are by far the best of their jerseys.

What is the attraction with Lemieux over Petan?

Only Maurice knows. I can’t see what anyone sees in Lemieux.

11 games vs bottom 10 standings teams Jets are 10-0-1

Jets don't have a win in 5 games vs top 5 teams

Tomorrow is the test ... see you at the Arena

Close Benny. I think there is more to it than that. Jets this season are .667 winning record with Lemieux and just a snick above .500 with Petan. Petan doesn't have the weight, size , or strength to grind like Petan so he is the better fourth line fit. Maurice trusts Lemieux defensively more than Petan. Better shot, better speed all go to Lemieux as well. At the end of the day, we don't need a playmaker on the fourth line.

I am not much of a Lemieux fan either and would rather see C.J Suess or Logan Shaw come up and see what they can do at some point before we get close to the trade deadline.

As for the trade deadline, Jets need to add some better depth to that fourth line. Once Copp is back on the third line , Perreault can shift back to the fourth line . He and Appleton are fine there. We need one more good strong player there. We might also want to add some LH defensive depth. Ross might say we need a second line centre but I think it would be too costly at a time where the Jets prospects in the system have become a bit thinner the Seattle draft is coming up in a few years.

As for some other teams. Colorado might be in the driver's seat. Almost $12 MM they can spend. That could get them Panarin and Stone on the second line. Yikes ! ...or one or two good defensemen like Eldler. Vancouver also has lots of cap room so they will be looking as well. So will Montreal and Jersey. Most of the rest of the teams can't afford much at all. Some might think Panarin is the biggest prize but I have been saying for the past two years that Mark Stone is the guy any team would want in a playoff run.

Jets now second best team in the league. This should quiet all the naysayers for a while. I don't understand why everyone is always on here wanting to change lines and dynamics. Scheif, Little, and TLC lines are solid. The fourth line with Perreault still as good as any in the league even with Lemieux. All three D pairings playing good hockey. Myers without Morrow can now finally venture out more on offence.

Tampa still the better team even with all the injuries they have had including the league's top goalie. This will be a huge game for the Jets to prove to its fans and the league truly how good they are and if they are in the same class as Tampa. Can't wait for this one.

P.S. This goes a game back but as much as I like her, does anyone think that Sara Orlesky should be interviewing Jets players while she could hardly talk with some throat virus ?

Also, I know we got a deal on Scheif but man did Colorado ever get a deal on MacKinnon and Landeskog. $6.6MM and 5.5 MM. In the same type of argument as Laine , how can Rantanen ask for $10 MM + ? In the cap world I'm most jealous of Nasville and Colorado right now.

I agree with you on this....I sugar coated my words so as not to get into a debate about Petan with his fan club.

He’s actually the worst player in the NHL right now. Completely sandbags all linemates in all 3 zones. It’s actually hilarious how bad his numbers are

There’s no logic. It’s name value. Pure, plain, and simple. His daddy whined about not getting to see him play, and Nic Petan is 5’9”, so Lemieux stays in.

to be 100% honest id rather see anyone on 4th line than Lemieux. he is too slow, people say he goes to the tough areas, what does it matter when he gets there 3 seconds late and the play has moved on? he is not an NHL'er.

Jetsnation, you are right that Colorado is absolutely heading in the right direction!! being able to add both Makar and Timmons on D and entry level contracts next year is their biggest advantage.

Myers has been much better, i to can admit that, if this is on Morrow. may he never see the ice again.

Another fun thing about Colorado: they might walk into next year with Hughes/other guy I can’t spell

That makes perfect sense to me....and if I ever see Lemieux in the top 6,I will make the assumption that Claude threatened to punch out Maurice. Thanks for the explanation.
