I highly doubt this can happen but never know Matthews knows this ISNT his team right now and might take a huge discount till he knows this is HIS team in 5 years then he gets his due payday.... and Mitch I dont see more then a 9M player as goals cost more then assists or so it seems |

Doughty to Toronto makes sense in a non-cap league, but we don’t live in fantasy land. If the Kings were to retain 2-3 million then ok, trade them Nylander, Zeitsev, Lilgren and our first (or whatever it costs). The kings however will not do that on an 8 year contract that hasn’t even started yet. Go back to rumours about Parayko to the Leafs, those at least were somewhat realistic. |

Ek, stop! Just stop! Nylander is not getting traded as long as Dubas is there. |

Your dreaming if you think that Matthews is going to take a "hometown" discount from the Leafs. The only hometown discount he is going to give is to Arizona's on July 1st when they give their hometown boy and franchise savior a 7 year $15 mil per offer sheet. Marner a Leafs true hometown boy will then sign for $10 mil per. |

If Lamoriello is building around Lee we are in trouble. One of the better power forwards, front of the net finishers in the league but not a guy you build a team around |

LOL at accusing anyone of "Dreaming" and then following-it-up with a hilarious take like that. Where the hell is Arizona getting that $?

This is from yesterday BTW.
NHL sources tell FOX 26 Sports that Houston Rockets owner Tillman Fertitta has met with National Hockey League Commissioner Gary Bettman and had preliminary talks about buying and relocating the Arizona Coyotes to Houston.
Stop with the Coyotees nonsense. They are broke, likely moving soon, and Matthews wants to win. This isn't a John Tavares situation at all. Tavares left a bottom feeder to join the Leafs. The Coyotees are horrendous and losing 50 million this year alone. |

There is much more of a chance of Matthews signing for 5 million than 15 million with Arizona.
People need to drop that fantasy. |

Hate to break it leaf fans just cause Dubas says he isn't going to be traded means nothing. He is not an idiot and knows someone has to go. If he can get value for him he will, simple as that.
Also it does not mean players will not sign for leafs because Dubas promised Willy something stupid. The leafs will be fine and have no problem signing players as long as Mathews and Johnny T are healthy. |

So, in addition to the Leafs losing Matthews and Marner through offersheets, the Leafs lose Nylander, but gain Doughty?
Marner, Nylander, Matthews for Doughty and 8 1st round picks?
Sign me up. |

Arizona needs to reach the floor and they know Matthews will make them money even at 15 million a year. Will it happen, prolly not. But their is a 0 percent chance Matthews takes a penny less then 12 million. |

The Coyotes will find the $ as he'll bring in huge corporate and season ticket interest. They'll spend the money knowing he will be a great investment to keep the team in Arizona. No different than the Leafs paying hometown boy Tavares, a 70 points per year player $11 mil. |

You think people in Arizona will suddenly care about ice hockey because there would be a player on their team that lived there for a while? |

Not a chance. Wishfull leaf fans thinking that. If he stays healthy for the rest of season and continues at this rate he will make more then Mcdavid. If he gets hurt or has a long drought he makes 12 mil. |

No that means nothing. I think they would care about hockey because they will have one of the best players in the world on their team. They will also be a good team again. |

Leafs fans are accused of being wishful thinking for everything. Along with being "nowhere near the level of McDavid", "should have picked Laine", "injury prone" and "bolting to the Coyotes the first second he gets", we're also being told he'll be, at the very least, the 2nd highest paid player in the league.
If I'm being honest, this feels like more of the drivel I've read over the last couple of seasons to go along with Leafs having the worst defense in the league, an average goalie, any half decent player leaving through offersheets, while also signing massive deals with the Leafs, and Mike Babcock never making it into year 3 (this is year 4).
IMO, of course. |
