First, Doughty has a 7 team trade list, but that doesn’t appear to take effect until the 23-24 season running to the end of his upcoming 8 year extension. That gives the Kings 3 years after this season to make a decision to deal Doughty, and honestly it seems like they were definitely going to trade him within those first 3 years.

You realize that Doughty has a full NMC in the first 4 seasons of his new contract? They don't have the option to trade him unless they get his permission. There may or may not be NMC protection appended on to the final year of his current contract. They did that for Anze Kopitar last season. They didn't announce the full details of Doughty's NMC, so it's not clear if they did it for him too. Bottom line, if the Kings want to trade Doughty, Doughty gets to choose if and where he goes.

Now the tough part will be the Kings will one one of Suzuki or Poehling, but Bergevin won’t move them.

The Habs should not look at moving D prospect Josh Brook (9 G, 33 Pts, 25 GP) either as he looks like he’s the Canadiens best all round D prospect in a long time. Anyone else is fair game to make this deal happen, in my opinion, and the Habs have some very good prospects in the system for LA to choose from.

So the Habs want perhaps the best two-way defenseman since Nic Lidstrom, but don't want to give up their best prospects for him? This isn't rental Erik Karlsson we're talking about. Doughty is signed for another 8 full years. If Montreal won't give up Suzuki, then Doughty doesn't go to Montreal.

It's all moot because this rumour is stupid. Doughty isn't going anywhere.
