Eh, I get what you're saying, but logic is skewed. Horvat was also a part of those teams, so the same reasoning could be applied him: we are no better with him in than out at this particular point.
I don't think you can take a crappy team and place it on the shoulders of two players. The Canucks have a lot more terrible players than them that should be moved on before, that are actually making the team worse.
Now, those are two players that still hold some level of trade value, so for that I think trading one of them is worth it... both if you feel Edler would resign this summer at a discount. - NewYorkNuck
Logic on HB skewed? lol I think it relatively speaks for itself.
Horvat is part of the core moving forward...Edler and Tanev will not be so to lump them together is odd but I see what you are saying. Agree there are alot of players we need to move on from before Tanev/Edler problem is they have little to no value. Moving Tanev/Edler now gets us value for the future. There is little to no mentorship value with them either for the amount of games they are healthy now. lots of intangibles good and bad but it's time to let go. People get so attached to certain players here it's odd. To me anyways. Personally I don't think trading one and bringing back to other is technically moving forward. |

I think we need to move on when the chance presents itself. Edlers contract is up this year and Tanev's is up next year. Benning needs to do some digging for replacements.

Logic is the team isn't going to win the cup before the end of their contracts and they are old and won't be part of the new core so get rid of them while they still hold a bit of value. |

I just think change for changes sake isn’t the best. I get wanting to move on from them, but unless there is a plan in place to replace/upgrade (either from within or from FA) it’s going to be a detriment to the new players we all want to bring in.
It’s a hard balance between getting a trade return on them while they have value, keeping them as they have value to a rebuilding team (sheltering and pairing with rookies), and getting the same/better value from signing a new guy. |

Do you want to wonder in 2 or 3 years if it is time to move on from Edler? It is up to Benning to improve the D not make them the same and older (IMO)

I don't think Benning gives a rats ass who's name is on the back of a sweater, loyalty outside of the Sedins isn't his thing. I think he'll change someone out if he finds a better player or option.
If he can't find a better option than Edler then he'll probably re-sign him. |

The biggest problem of the Canucks is the back end. If you can't generate offence then you are screwed. Edler is no longer a 40 pt Dman. He is good defensively but do you want to commit 5 mil a year for 3 years.
There is no hometown discount for a 33 year old player looking to sign his last big deal. |

Thanks Carol!
Not a fan of the way the NHL measures a “game winning” goal. I get that technically the second goal in a 6-1 win is the “winner”, but when you talk about players scoring the winner it makes it sound like a clutch play, like a walk off in baseball. Not that Petey isn’t great and all, because he is! |

I want to wonder in two or three years if we developed our prospects properly, instead of throwing them into 20+ minute nights against top lines.
Again, I’m not advocating keeping them. I’m advocating having a plan to bring the prospects in properly. If that means keeping one of them because the trade isn’t worth it, or there isn’t a UFA D willing to sign that will be an upgrade, what’s the problem with having one stay on to make sure the new kids don’t get crushed? |

I don’t trust the pro-scouts ability to identify a better player. I would rather have more picks in Brackett’s pocket. |

exactly. I'm not saying we have to move both of them today...but it needs to happen. |
