I am not suggesting the trade, in fact I said I would not. What I suggested is the kind of return I believe the Leafs would give for Simmer. I want Simmer traded out west - wcorvette
that was a leafs fan level trade suggestion |

That's how I see it. I know there are guys who have to be re-signed in the next couple years, but other than Provy, TK and Patrick, I doubt any are looking at new deals with cap hits north of 2.5 million. When you factor in AMac, Gudas, Raffl, Lehtera, Weise and Weal all off the books no later than 2020, that alone gives them 19 million to work with. They are in excellent shape when it comes to the cap and Hextall deserves full credit for it. - BiggE
and the cap is going up to 83 million next year from what Bettman said. Crazy |

Obviously it’s not fact but this is the way it usually goes when it comes to older FAs looking to get their last big paycheck. |

I like Kapanen but I don't think that is full value for Simmonds but I think it full value for the Leafs, since they know they wont resign Simmonds. - wcorvette
You think you can trade Simmonds for what then? Kapanen will hit 20 goals easy in his second year in the NHL. Might be a 30 goal scorer and is what? 22? |

Yup. Now factor in the added revenue from another expansion team coming in 21-22. Unless there is a major recession (which is always possible) the cap could easily be at 95 million or more by 23-24. |

Again, not an attack but I’m looking for fact. I’m tired of reading the same old “We need to trade Simmonds if he wants 7 million for 7 years”. For me, the question always comes back to, where is this coming from?? |

It’s coming from comparisons to what similar FAs like Simmonds have signed for in relation to what the cap limit was when they signed. We’re discussing a contract that has yet to be signed, it’s all speculation. However there is a difference between making wild guesses and forming an educated opinion based on previous deals.
Also no worries, I don’t see this as an attack in any way shape or form. It’s just a discussion |

LOL, true! They should be trading for Carey Price sometime in 2026 or so. |

7 million is outrageous money. 7 years is outrageous term. We can all agree on this. |

As much as I love Simmonds and I think he is the closest we will ever have to a classic "Flyers player" if they were to sign him for 7 years at 7 per everyone should be fired.

The Flyers power play comes in at 15.1 percent (11-for-73, 27th) with four shorthanded goals yielded.
Yikes - that's really scary... in 25 games, the PP is only a +7. |

1. Does Stolarz put in another solid performance.
2. Does the PK keep showing improvement. |

The fact he thinks Farabee is anywhere in the realm of Frost, who was an OHL MVP finalist and 2nd in OHL scoring at 18, not as an overager. |

If I am the Flyers I am doing no more than 3 years, pushing for a 2 year contract with a no compromise no movement or trade clause. If I am Simmonds No way I am signing for less than 5 years and I want a NMC.
Simmonds deserves to get the best deal he can, but unfortunately the Flyers can not provide that in their situation. |

I agree the term is outrageous, but the money? Not really. JVR, who doesn’t bring the intangibles that Simmonds brings, just got 7 million per and that was well before anyone knew the cap was increasing to 83 million next season. Sure Simmonds is 1.5 years older (at the time he become FA) but don’t kid yourself; there will be multiple GMs willing to give Simmonds the same deal we gave JVR. |

I sure hope that the Flyers hold on to both.
There is 0 reason to trade them at this time, well unless the Canucks want to trade Elias Pettersson or the Oilers want to trade McD.
(I am not saying straight up. I am not comparing the Flyers prospects to the plays named above. I am speaking about a blockbuster trade that would require alot more from the Flyers but include said players) |

I would hope for much higher as expansion franchise should bump it about 6 million than assume 2 or 3 million per year plus a new TV contract for 2022-2023 which should increase cap greatly. Not to the NBA extent of 35 million or whatever that was. But a lot. |

“Farabee is fourth on his team, Boston University, in points. He has seven in 13 games, and is the highest scoring freshman on the team.”

3G 4A so far for Farabee - NC Flyers Fan
NCAA is much different than CHL...Farabee is playing against grown men already. Plus Farabee is more of a shooter, where as Frost is a playmaker. Personally for me I give the slight edge to the scorer. |
